Position Overview

Position Details: 
-Compensation for this position is in the $57,000 to $62,000 range.
-The anticipated start for this position is September 12, 2024.
-This position is hybrid: at least 2 days/week in-person in the Philadelphia office or schoolhouse for in-person support and collaboration.

Job Summary/Position Overview:
The Senior Manager, Individual Giving (SMIG) is responsible for supporting the overall efforts of the Individual Giving Team. The SMIG partners with Site Leadership and the Development Team to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and family foundations. Their focus will be on engaging a portfolio of individual donors, providing staff leadership to the Associate Board, managing the mid-level giving program and identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors. Their specific focus will be on building an individual donor base to raise increased resources, and ultimately, serve more students in Philadelphia.  

Job Description

Job Responsibilities: 
 

Donor Management – 35% 

 

  • Raise $200,000+ through the Individual Giving portfolio in support of FY25 private revenue goal of $2,900,000 

  • Manage a portfolio of individual and family foundation donors through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with hopes to have these donors increase their giving and engagement 

  • Promote membership in the mid-level and Red Jacket Society programs, encouraging donors to invest $1,000+ in City Year 

  • Develop strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership-level support and multi-year commitments from new individual donors and family foundations 

  • Engage 3-5 donors per week, on average, through emails, calls, and visits to homes, offices, and events in the Philadelphia area 

  • Document and maintain clear and timely records and call reports to track contracts, donor giving, notes, and assist in the maintenance of an accurate donor database 

  • Build relationships with new, current, and lapsed individual donors (<$10,000) to renew their commitment to City Year Philadelphia (CYP) 

 

Associate Board Leadership – 30% 

 

  • Lead efforts of the Associate Board and provide leadership around all meetings, campaigns, and activities  

  • Manage the Young Friends of CYP, a volunteer group of young professionals who advance the mission of City Year through annual donations and event support 

  • Collaborate with the Events Director to execute on all young professional events and initiatives 

 

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship Activities– 15% 

 

  • Develop annual stewardship and engagement plans for individual donor segments that ensure consistent and tailored communication, convey impact, and advance toward renewals and upgrades 

  • Create and develop effective communication and engagement materials based on City Year’s mission and vision, in coordination with the Communications & Marketing team. 

  • Work with the Development staff and key volunteers to develop, execute, and evaluate strategies to engage individual donors through outreach, education, invitations to special events, and personal contacts 

  • Leverage City Year events, such as the annual dinner, specialty-market events, champions’ receptions, service days, and other select gatherings, to raise awareness and to secure financial resources for our work 

  • Recommend new engagement opportunities and implement stewardship best practices including thank you cards, gifting, and additional recognition components 

 

Prospect Generation– 10% 

 

  • Analyze CYP’s current individual giving portfolio and identify opportunities for upsells as well as new donor entry points 

  • Build out full individual giving strategy in collaboration with the Individual Giving Director and Managing Director, Development 

  • Support the efforts of volunteer committees to identify and solicit prospects, with a specific focus on the annual dinner and specialty market events 

  • Build strategies to connect with and expand our relationship with event attendees and volunteers 

 

Organizational Initiatives & Site Support10% 

  • Work closely with the Development team to understand priorities and revenue goals, and develop strategies to meet the team’s needs  

  • Collaborate with other site departments, City Year Headquarters’ corporate partnerships team, and other City Year sites on a frequent basis  

  • Participate in site and network-wide meetings and calls, providing insight, feedback, and collective problem solving 

  • Support and attend all major site events, including fundraisers, service days, training, and other initiatives  

  • Engage in structured discussion and training on diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as a site 

  • Partner with CYP’s departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the SSC applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees

Skills, Knowledge, and Experiences:  

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in relationship cultivation, partner engagement, and/or fundraising, with proven ability to deliver strong, measurable results  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2 additional years of experience  

  • Outstanding ability to communicate with diverse audiences verbally, in writing, and via presentation 

  • Strong ability/initiative to work independently and collaborate with folks with diverse needs, expectations, and perspectives, including those not in direct line of authority   

  • Efficient time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects 

  • Willingness and availability to occasionally work irregular hours, such as early mornings, evenings and weekends
