Are you ready to drive innovation in test automation with the latest technologies?  We’re looking for an Intermediate Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join us at Thinkific.

At Thinkific, the Intermediate Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) will implement automation scripts for front-end and back-end services, driving product quality and improving test coverage and CI pipelines. You’ll collaborate with development, QA, product, and operations teams to ensure clear requirements and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll optimize testing strategies and drive efficiency.

Your goal will be to expand the test automation scope and improve the CI delivery pipeline. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this:

  • Advocate for a quality-first mindset by ensuring shared accountability across the development team
  • Implement automation scripts to test front-end applications as well as back-end services and integrations. Take part in all aspects of the development cycle (daily scrums, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog grooming and guilds)
  • Assist the development team with building and maintaining the frameworks needed to expand the test automation scope, and improve our CI delivery pipeline
  • Coach team members on testing tools and test techniques
  • Act as a liaison between development, QA, product, and operation teams
  • Create comprehensive test plans and strategies aligning with best practices
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Product Owners to ensure clarity in requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Assist in creating and implementing a QA automation roadmap
  • Maintain product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures

The person we have in mind likely:

  • Has extensive experience in automating end-to-end test and API test cases using modern tools like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or Protractor
  • Is familiar with test automation strategies for Ruby on Rails and React applications
  • Has a strong understanding of software development principles for writing and optimizing test automation scripts, in addition to manual testing
  • Has experience working with Github Actions, SemaphoreCI, Jenkins or similar CI/CD solutions
  • Possesses strong knowledge of testing methodologies and concepts
  • Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Possesses the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Has effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Is an excellent out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver
  • Proactively explores new technologies and facilitates POCs to assess feasibility
  • Has hands-on experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud testing environments
  • Loves to learn and grow. They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education, gaining professional experience, or maybe even building their own business

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job:

  • Experience setting up test automation of existing production tools from scratch
  • Has maintained component test plans for a multi-component application in the past
  • Familiarity with education tech platforms or any LMS systems
  • Knowledge of AI-based tools for automated test creation, exploratory testing etc.
  • Experience with performance testing and familiarity with tools like JMeter and K6

The recruitment compensation range for this position is $78,000.00 - $97,000.00 CAD. Your specific compensation within this range is determined based on your job-related skills, knowledge, experience, and our internal equity assessment.
