Job Summary

Responsible for managing Comcast’s backbone fiber portfolio. Serves as primary fiber subject-matter expert for national network programs. Leads commercial and technical strategy for fiber planning and acquisition. Accountable for maintaining all fiber-related records and delivery of reports and analysis for project planning, financial reporting, and commercial negotiations. Primary fiber SME supporting the wider transport engineering team on new and existing projects including backbone technology refresh, site relocations, & core architecture evolution (Janus).

About the Team:

Core Network Engineering. Responsible for planning and engineering of backbone and metro routing and switching networks, backbone and network transport and optical networks, backbone fiber, network security, certification labs and architecture.

What You’ll Do:

  • Fiber vendor & industry management.  Responsible to manage relationships with fiber vendors and maintain up-to-date information on their business health, pricing, available assets, maps, fiber characteristics, and future builds.  Responsible for tracking and advising on macro trends in the fiber industry and on the direction of Comcast’s competitors.
  • Internal alignment on fiber projects.  Responsible to cultivate relationships with the Divisions’ planning and construction teams and to regularly exchange information on national and division projects that could benefit one another. 
  • Fiber and optical data management.  Responsible for maintenance and evolution of the fiber inventory database. Responsible to understand and maintain detailed fiber information, vendor information, billing records, contract terms, riser/cross connects, DLRs and transport information.  Responsible for change management within the database to ensure records remain accurate.
  • Business owner for fiber-related tools. Responsible to develop and maintain a tools-based strategy for centralization and automation of fiber-related information.  Works closely with tools team on requirements and development plans.
  • Commercial/Wholesale Sales Support.  Responsible to evaluate Sales requests that have diversity or latency requirements that potentially involve design changes or new path acquisitions.
  • Routinely leads or participates in matrixed teams and serves as fiber expert with adjacent product and engineering teams to ensure smooth planning and execution of projects with a fiber component.
  • Timely Identification and acquisition of fiber for new projects including close coordination with transport engineers, procurement, legal, and finance resources.
  • Educates wider organization on business and technical dimensions of fiber optics.

Key Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:

  • Knowledge of fiber networks and fiber types.
  • Knowledge of transport/optical networks and how they interact with fiber.
  • Knowledge of fiber vendors and their assets.
  • Procurement of fiber assets including knowledge of purchasing models (IRUs, leases) and fiber construction.

Compensation

This job can be performed in Denver Campus with a Pay Range of $163,432.63 - $245,148.95

Comcast intends to offer the selected candidate base pay dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. Education

Bachelor's Degree: Electrical Engineering

While possessing the stated degree is preferred, Comcast also may consider applicants who hold some combination of coursework and experience, or who have extensive related professional experience.
