About the Role
The Director, Research Services is a pivotal leadership position within RMIT’s Research & Innovation Portfolio. As the Director, Research Services, you will lead and inspire a team of research management professionals, fostering a collaborative culture and championing service excellence by adopting best practices, ensuring compliance and enhancing the researcher experience. You will play a key role in enabling RMIT's Knowledge with Action Strategy and our ambition to be a leading university of impact across the Asia Pacific. This role involves developing and implementing strategies to enhance research services informed by data driven insights, improve operational efficiency through digital enablement and capability uplift, and drive a culture of continuous improvement to provide high quality pre-award, research contract, post-award, ethics, integrity and governance services.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading a Research Services team with a strong service culture, focused on continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery.
Building and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance research services and advocate for research management.
Developing and applying strategies and deepening our research development activity to support researchers in securing research funding and managing research projects.
Ensuring compliance with governance and regulatory requirements and fostering a culture of integrity and ethical research conduct.
Representing Research Services across the University and externally, maintaining professional networks and staying abreast of best practices globally.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
A proven track record in leading and motivating a high-performing team in a comparable research services function, delivering results in a dynamic environment with a strong service culture.
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary research management practices and proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
A proactive, strategic, and collegial leadership style with strong diplomacy, communication, and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to build capability, improve processes through digital enablement, and lead organizational change.
Extensive experience in the operational management of large teams or functions, including financial and employee management.
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline and extensive work experience.
