Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Principal or Sr. Principal Data Scientist to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position requires on-site support located in Palmdale, CA where technology and teamwork come together. The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.
Data Scientist job duties involve the following:
Creates architectures/models, applications, statistical reporting, and data analysis to identify trends, drive process improvement, and implement scaled digital solutions. Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop solutions enabling data driven decisions, standardized digital procedures, and efficient execution.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Data Scientist:
Bachelor's degree with 4 years of technical and/or engineering experience, Master's degree with 3 years of engineering experience, OR PhD with 0 years of experience
Strong understanding of SQL, Python
Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations
Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema
Experience with dashboarding frameworks (Plotly Dash, Panel, Streamlit, Tableau, etc.)
Experience with modeling and normalizing complex data
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Ability to work 1st shift "5:00am-3:30pm" or any work schedule (times may vary)
Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device for up to 10 hours / duration of shift. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling
Ability to travel at least 25% to different sites

Bachelor's degree with 8 years of engineering experience, Master's degree with 6 years of engineering experience, OR PhD with 4 years of engineering experience
Strong understanding of SQL, Python
Experience in data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering Concepts/Theory and Production Operations
Working knowledge of databases (SQL Server, AWS Databases (DynamoDB, RDS, or similar)) and schema

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering/Computer Science/Data Science/Statistics
Current and active Secret or Top-Secret clearance preferred
Experience designing solution architecture
Hands-on experience with core Python data science tools (Numpy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciKit-Learn, etc.)
Hands-on experience with machine learning libraries and applications in the manufacturing domain (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
Hands-on experience with time series analysis and sequence modeling
Experience with manu
Experience developing tools to improve efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
