Job Description 

You will have the opportunity to shape the future of science working with other software engineers and collaborating with materials scientists and machine learning specialists. We are actively seeking an experienced developer to join our software platform team and help us build tools to support automated scientific analysis and more.  This candidate should have experience in data engineering and workflow automation, primarily in the Python programming language. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience with a focus on Python development for scientific applications and bring best practices around git and collaborative development. Familiarity with DevOps, AWS, and JavaScript front-end development will be a distinct advantage. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Participating in the entire software development life cycle, focusing on coding and debugging of scientific workflows. 
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use. 
  • Integrating user-facing elements into applications. 
  • Interfacing with the Laboratory Automation Team and Software Platform Team to generate specification documents 
  • Designing and implementing workflow automation scripts per the specification document 
  • Comprehending our strategic direction and applying it towards software development. 
  • Managing git repositories and implementing git best practices. 
  • Supporting infrastructure as code and creating efficient deployment strategies.
  • Utilizing AWS tooling to scale and improve software performance.

Required Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in Computer Science or relevant field. 
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the software development field. 
  • High-level proficiency in Python. 
  • Strong understanding of git best practices. 
  • Acute listening skills and patience to deeply understand user challenges. 
  • Experience implementing scalable software solutions. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and team-first mentality.  
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.  
  • Energetic self-starter and independent thinker, with strong attention to detail. 
  • Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical setting. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with workflow orchestration software and best practices 
  • Experience with the Django ecosystem (Django, DRF, Django-ninja), data science and ML packages (pandas, numpy, scipy), and workflow automation tools (airflow, dagster, prefect), and related tools (pydantic, fastAPI).  
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices such as GitOps and infrastructure as code. 
  • Knowledge of JavaScript for some front-end dev. 
  • Experience with AWS fundamentals– RDS, EC2, S3, ECS etc.
