Under the leadership of the Director of Counseling Services, the Crisis Counselor - Advocate will provide confidential and comprehensive services to students accessing care through Student Counseling Services. This position serves as part of the SCS Crisis, Advocacy, and Outreach team. with a primary focus on providing mental health crisis response and support. This position will also complete advocacy training in compliance with state requirements and provide advocacy support, adapting between crisis and advocacy as-needed. The Crisis Counselor - Advocate will support prevention and education efforts relating to violence prevention and mental health / wellness.
This is an in-office position located in Stephenville, TX. Work hours are Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 8am-5pm; Tuesday and Wednesday 10am-7pm; or as work requirements indicate. This position is partially mobile, to meet with students, faculty, staff, and / or community members where appropriate. Must be able to work remotely at the request of the University. Occasional travel to the Ft. Worth campus may be required.
Responsibilities:
65% Direct Client Support: Provide risk assessment, crisis management, and brief treatment services for students seeking help for emotional and behavioral concerns. Provide crisis follow-up appointments, transition planning for students accessing or leaving inpatient care, and support accessing post-crisis / ongoing care either through SCS or through another appropriate avenue. Support advocacy services when crisis needs are lower including providing options, referrals, and information to students who experience crime, violence, or abuse. Provide emergency assistance in the immediate aftermath of violence and related follow up services. Provide education to survivors on their rights and responsibilities.
15% Indirect Advocacy & Crisis Support: Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate care and services, which may include coordination with campus departments and / or local agencies and accompaniment to appointments on or off campus. Serve on appropriate on and off-campus committees. Liaison with Dean of Students Office, CARE team, campus and community law enforcement and others as-appropriate to support student victims and students experiencing crises.
10% Data collection and reporting: Keep appropriate records; collect and share de-identified aggregate data as-appropriate with campus and community stakeholders including Title IX and Clery committees, community Sexual Assault Response Team, community High Risk Domestic Violence Task Force, etc.
5% Case Management & Consultation: Provides timely documentation of counseling services per State licensure requirements and Counseling Services policies. Participates in clinical consultation and staffing. Provide periodic mentoring and support for undergraduate and graduate trainees.
5% Other duties as assigned including some evenings and weekends. This includes regularly-recurring campus efforts supporting the Division of Student Engagement and Success and the University including Duck Camps, Transition Week, Commencement etc. Responsibilities related to advocacy position may require occasional evenings and weekends.
Required Education and Experience:
Professional Counselor I:
Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
Provisionally-licensed (LPC-Associate, LMFT-Associate, LMSW, etc.) Must complete full licensure for continued employment.
Professional Counselor II:
Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
Fully licenses as a Texas Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Two years of related experience
Professional Counselor III:
Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
Fully licensed; must maintain license to maintain employment
Five years post-licensure clinical mental health experience in college counseling center or other relevant setting or three years post-licensure with additional specialization / credentials.
Supervisory designation and / or specialized training preferred.
Professional Counselor IV:
Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
Fully licensed; must maintain license to maintain employment
Experience working in or with a complex organization with an understanding of larger institutional goals and objectives.
Ten years of post-licensure experience in a college counseling or related setting or seven-years post-licensed experience with specialization, certification, and / or additional license.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to remain calm and respond to individuals in crisis and emergency situations, and to handle graphic and sensitive situations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality; well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize competing demands. Demonstrated ability to work with clients of varying backgrounds and experiences, upholding client dignity and treating all clients with respect.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
Full licensure. Experience working in survivor advocacy and providing educational outreach. Knowledge of the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights/Title IX, VAWA/Clery Act, The White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault, and law enforcement and court procedures (criminal/civil). Experience working with college students and a strong interest in higher education. Familiarity with on and off campus support, reporting/adjudication options.

Commensurate with experience
The target base annual salary is commensurate based on education and experience and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
