Provides direct services and programming to TRIO participants.
Secondary: Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and management of the TRIO Student Support Services program.
This position is 100% grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO SSS initiative for 12-months, continuation status contingent upon the availability for future grant funding. Current funding through 8/31/2025.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists Director and TRIO Coordinator in ensuring that the TRIO project is implemented in accordance with all grant rules, regulations, and applicable federal laws
- Assists recruitment efforts of TRIO applicants
- Provides guidance, coaching, support, standards, and accountability to TRIO participants relationship to the program
- Responsible for helping to assess student needs and ensuring that appropriate services are provided
- Provides academic and personal problem-solving to TRIO participants including case management and follow-up
- Participates in an early warning system for TRIO students facing difficulties
- Provides individualized student advising and assists in the development of Student Education Plans (SEP) with oversight by TRIO Coordinator
- Records general data for each TRIO participant (activity attendance, financial aid, etc.)
- Along with Director and TRIO Coordinator, serves as co-advisor for the TRIO Leadership Council, a registered student organization with the Ivy Tech Office of Student Life
- Experience with or ability to become proficient in online program systems such as Banner, Workday, MyIvy, Starfish, Salesforce, Campus Labs, Canvas LMS, Facebook, Zoom, Heiberg’s Student Access, DocuSign, FAFSA, Common App, select Google products, and others
- Assists in the coordination and presentation of TRIO seminars and other engagement events
- Assists the TRIO Director in the creation of literature, materials, policy / procedure, and reports
- Partners with other services / programs (both inside and outside the college) as well as college employees, coordinating efforts and sharing resources
- May perform some duties of the Program Assistant when that role is absent and/or other TRIO front office functions as needed
- Assists in supervision of federal work-study students and campus interns
- Attends national, regional, and local conferences as funding allows
- As a college employee, assists in efforts that support the Ivy Tech Community College mission

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of post-secondary education; associate’s degree in a relevant field preferred
- Previous mentoring or advising experience (preferred)
- Background reflecting success in overcoming barriers like those faced by SSS eligible participants (preferred)
Experience in educational programs serving disadvantaged student populations (preferred) - Must be able to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA
- Proficiency in current technologies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and consistently meet deadlines
- Independent work effort and professional appearance and demeanor
