We are building DigitalOcean’s customer observability platform.

On DigitalOcean’s Insights Team, you will build and operate cloud-scale distributed time-series databases powering all customer observability. We ingest and store 45 billion metrics every day for our customers. As a Senior Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for setting the technical vision around Customer Observability, providing technical leadership and mentorship to the team, and representing the team when contributing to the overall technical landscape at DigitalOcean.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Contributing to the technical direction and architecture of our Customer Observability platform
  • Collaborating with other engineer’s to deliver scalable, reliable solutions for our customers
  • Support and improve our customer Insights Platform by operating and extending the Open Source software we depend on (Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana).
  • Working closely with other product teams to enhance product offerings and improve our customer's observability.
  • Working with DigitalOcean’s infrastructure and customer metrics for data mining and metering.
  • Automating operational tasks to improve efficiency and allow more time for innovation.
  • Working with exciting technologies such as Kubernetes, Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, Go, Docker, Kafka and more.

What We Expect From You:

  • Experience in Go is required - this is our primary language for development (Java experience is nice to have).
  • Experiences working with configuration / infrastructure management (IaC), deployment automation, and instrumentation.
  • An appreciation of SRE principles, along with utilizing data and automation to improve systems.
  • Excellent communication skills. We work intimately with product teams to ensure our customers have the observability they need to be successful on our platform.
  • Curiosity and motivation to dive into challenges, get your hands dirty, and jump into complex problems to find effective solutions.
  • Experience with distributed systems or a strong desire to learn, with a focus on understanding the challenges of building and operating a cloud-scale platform.
