Job Description and Responsibilities

Managing all incoming and outgoing traffic, ensuring that all customers wear the appropriate PPE while in the yard. Inspecting all loads and materials according to company guidelines. Ensuring safe interactions between customers and company equipment.

  • Inspect incoming scrap for fuel sources
  • Segregate prohibited items in designated bins for further processing / disposal
  • Direct customers to appropriate unloading areas
  • Interact with customers and assist with unloading scrap metal
  • Observe and practice all company safety rules and policies
  • Maintain constant and clear communication with the office, gate security and operators controlling traffic in and out of unloading area
  • Ensure safe interaction with customers and company heavy equipment by maintaining safe distance
  • Ensure customer codes are marked on each scrap vehicle
  • Document any prohibited items rejected promptly  

Requirements

  • No experience necessary but previous work experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard/auto part environment will be considered an asset
  • Must High School diploma or equivalent
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position including standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, moderate to heavy lifting and pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds throughout the day
  • Customer focus: Take responsibility for developing excellent customer service making sure that all customer interactions are handled professionally and expeditiously
  • Willing and able to work in variable weather conditions including hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions
  • Team Player: Establish trust with team members, stating clear expectations and recognizes group morale and acts to protect and/or build as required
  • Knowledge and understanding of metallic materials purchased, ferrous and non-ferrous classifications, an asset
  • Ability to multi-task in a progressive environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have reliable transportation as the work site is not accessible by city transit
