Job Description: Legal Analyst, India (Office of Customer Contracting, OCC/ APJ Legal)

Role Overview

This role comprises three primary functions:

To contribute to and enable the booking of orders and revenue through efficient and effective contract review, drafting and processing utilizing a Contract Lifecycle Management system in compliance with Ciena’s policies and procedures.    To support the broader APJ Legal Team to review, negotiate and draft contracts with customers, channel partners, service providers and suppliers in support of Ciena’s business and operations in the Asia Pacific & Japan region. To assist with wide variety of the other matters that are part of the work of an in-house legal department.
 

Experience and Candidate Profile

  • Graduate degree or other legal qualification or relevant work experience.
  • >2 yrs experience of reviewing and/or drafting commercial contracts is desirable.
  • Experience working with a Contract Lifecycle Management system a plus.
  • Intellectual curiosity and general interest in developing new skills.
  • Ability to organize time and tasks well and work in a fast-paced environment and work under tight deadlines.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work and communicate effectively with a virtual team across multiple geographies and time zones. 
  • Team orientated, with a willingness to “jump in” and support other team members. 
  • Ability to interact successfully with internal stakeholders.
  • Energetic and willing to work flexible hours.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Ideally based in the Gurgaon area, accessibility to the Ciena office.

Key responsibilities

(1) OCC

  • Drafting letters and simple amendments which describe a commercial arrangement with a customer.   
  • Interacting with numerous Ciena stakeholders (including, sales, services, commercial management, PLM, and finance) to coordinate business responses to a customer-provided contracts in preparation for review with customer.
  • Managing the customer contracting processes within the Contract Lifecycle Management system to achieve contract approvals and signatures.
  • Support in Govt. bids/tenders. Stitching of standard responses and managing documentation / certs with partners.

(2) General APJ Legal support

  • Assist regional Legal Primes to review, negotiate and structure customer agreements, including trial and evaluation agreements, sales and license agreements, services agreements and reseller and channel distribution agreements, working in coordination with Commercial Management, Finance and the Global Field Organization.
  • Assist regional Legal Primes to review and assist with preparation of responses to customer tenders and RFX (requests for proposals, quotations, information, etc.)
  • Assist with proper administration, approval and tracking of customer agreements in accordance with company policies and processes.
  • Participate in strategic projects, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
