AMLI Residential is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our team as our new Accounting and Tax Manager (Non-Income Taxes) to manage various non-income tax responsibilities for our company.

The Accounting and Tax Manager (Non-Income Taxes) will prepare and coordinate filings, payments, and related accounting for all taxes other than income tax (i.e., use tax, real estate tax, personal property tax, leases tax, business license fees, abandoned property, etc.) This person will manage company-wide initiatives related to non-income taxes - including data analysis to identify errors and risk exposures, coordinating action to address the root causes of errors, and maintaining a robust control environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and file registrations and returns for all taxes, other than federal and state income taxes, for 80-90 legal entities across seven states.
  • Ensure that all registrations, filings, and related payments are accurate and timely.
  • Process and/or coordinate all accounting entries related to non-income taxes.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate all balance sheet reconciliations related to non-income taxes.
  • Perform ongoing transaction analysis to identify errors and implement root-cause solutions. For example, identify invoices with incorrect sales tax, coordinate with vendors to receive credit for errors, and ensure that future invoices are accurate.
  • Manage responses/defense to notices, inquiries, and audits.
  • Research and communicate applicable tax laws, regulations, and changes. Prepare exposure analyses and coordinate changes to procedures and controls across the company as appropriate.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related field.
  • 2+ years experience with sales and use taxes
  • 5+ years of relevant experience to build core competencies in:
  • Tax research
  • Analysis of transaction data
  • Development of accounting controls
  • Technology adoption and optimization

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods. The employee must be able to talk and hear on the telephone. The employee must have good dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
