The Data Science Manager will support the Membership & Data Science pillar of the Enterprise Analytics Team.  Reporting directly to Director of Data Science, we are looking for a thought partner who will apply Data Science principles and technology to drive membership insights that will improve member engagement, shopping, retention, and growth.  In addition, this role will be responsible for helping to envision, build, deploy and develop our next generation of data engines and tools, which will help us fundamentally transform our business.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to: 

• Partner with Membership leadership, by bringing a Data Science perspective grounded in loyalty economics, to the development BJ’s engagement and loyalty strategies across all channels
• Provide ad hoc data science support to drive data driven decision making and strategy across the membership, engagement, loyalty, CRM and member insight space
• Be a thought partner in the creation of our engagement and personalization testing plans and provide “next level” insights related to the measurement of tests 
• Ability to frame business problems and decompose their constituent parts for data science analysis and building new solutions
• Build machine learning models and use applied statistics (supervised/unsupervised learning, lift modeling, linear/nonlinear programming, feature selection) to support the business
• Certify all engagement and loyalty testing/measurement (hypothesis testing, A/B testing, design of experiment, sample size/power calculation)
• Develop and maintain machine learning pipelines including ETL and ML Ops pipelines
• Ability to communicate data science concepts/insights to non-technical audiences
• Manage, coach and develop a Team of Data Scientists responsible for engagement analytics and member insights

Job Requirements:

• BSc in Computer Science, engineering (or related area), or equivalent experience
• 5 to 10 years of experience in algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming
• Implementation experience in machine learning algorithms and applications
• Strong programming skills in at least one object oriented programming language (Python, PySpark, SQL, Java)
• Experience with cluster-computing frameworks (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)

This is a hybrid role. Tuesday through Thursday are in-office days at BJ's Club Support Center in Marlborough, MA and Monday and Friday are remote days.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $134,000.00.
