Our Shipping team plays a central role in the e-commerce experience. They impact important buying and selling choices by presenting top shipping options. They also ensure a smooth delivery process after purchase for millions of buyers and sellers. Our mission focuses on improving and advancing shipping and logistics services to support worldwide borderless trade. We manage extensive operations, providing complex distributed services with high volume, low delay, and strong availability guarantees.

As a manager of this fast-changing team, you will face new challenges and help with projects that transform eBay's logistics. We promote a cooperative culture that supports work-life balance while advancing technology. You will play a vital role in crafting the next generation of shipping platforms at eBay, energized by the scale and complexity of global e-commerce logistics. This position reports to engineering management and focuses on crafting and implementing advanced shipping and fulfillment solutions. You will be a key contributor, responsible for building, developing, and running highly scalable, resilient services that millions of buyers and sellers depend on daily. You will address difficult technical problems in logistics.

What you will accomplish:

• Drive the development of high-performance backend systems, ensuring reliability and smooth integration into eBay’s complex Shipping platform
• Lead initiatives that drive shipping architectural vision and improve transaction efficiency, aiming to increase user happiness and system efficiency
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to introduce innovative payment features that expand eBay’s offerings and improve market competitiveness
• Mentor and support engineers in adopting best technical practices and encouraging a collaborative environment conducive to growth and excellence
• Evaluate and implement new technologies that boost system performance and facilitate easier inter-operability with a fragmented global carrier network landscape

What you will bring:

• Proven experience in backend software development with expertise in logistics platform a plus
• Proven ability in architecting and scaling backend systems to accommodate substantial user and transaction growth
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python, alongside knowledge of cloud computing and microservices architecture
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse collaborators
• Experience in managing teams with the agile methodology and familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or closely related field with 12+ years of relevant experience or MS with 10 plus years’ experience
• 3+ years team management experience
