Position Summary

The Senior Events Manager I - Advancement reports to the Director, Special Events for Schools and Programs. The role of the Senior Events Manager I - Advancement is to plan and implement key events designed to cultivate, maintain, and strengthen alumni, parent, and friends ties to the University. Oversee or assist with all aspects of event planning.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage special events for the University Advancement programs - Distinguished Alumni Award dinners, scholarship events and other university-wide stewardship & cultivation events involving alumni, parents, and friends to the university.
  • Provide assistance with various event planning related activities including but not limited to contract negotiations and management, reserving event space, creating invitations, overseeing data for invitation lists, coordinating and supervising mail house projects, creating timelines, establishing logistical plans, securing speakers, creating seating plans, assisting with talking points, briefing materials, and onsite logistics.
  • Oversee the ongoing management of one team member, including day-to-day management of timesheets, performance reviews, and regular check-ins.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event planning, development or advancement or related field.
  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting.
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated strength in organizational and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of Advancement Programs and the activities of the department.
  • Desire to play a meaningful role in the University’s community and to share in the community’s commitment to education and research.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with administration, faculty, alumni, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively in a complex organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships. 
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across development offices, as well as independently. 
  • Ability to stay task-oriented without supervision.
  • Honesty, integrity, and enthusiasm; a very strong work ethic, supported by commitment and follow-through.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro) and standard office equipment.
  • Experience with email building software and/or graphic design.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years of related experience.

Salary Range

$65,900.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
