Software Engineering Intern

PacStar is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to assist the Software Engineering team with various tasks, participate in the software development process, and learn how a software application is designed and released.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will work with the PacStar Software Engineering team on small development tasks, story reviews, (unit) testing, and other tasks as assigned while gaining valuable experience.  You will be mentored by one or more Software and/or QA engineers who will help you understand how a software application is designed, developed, tested, and released.

Your Challenge:

  • Participate in design meetings with the software development and quality assurance teams
  • Provide user feedback on PacStar network management software applications
  • Use development tools such as JIRA and Confluence to document and track activities
  • Use Git-based tools to control code development
  • Work on tasks to assist the development team, for example:
    • Write PowerShell and/or Python scripts for prototyping, testing, or automation
    • Fix simple bugs in the product code
    • Develop and/or extend unit tests
    • Develop and implement data storage and manipulation mechanisms
    • Write C# libraries to assist with development activities
    • Create User Interface/User Experience wireframes
    • Help enhance existing User Interface views
    • Help test existing application features
    • Assist with technical writing assignments
  • Create an exit report outlining activities, lessons learned, and other commentary
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring:

  • Current or previous educational program, prefer Computer Science or related engineering field
  • Some coding experience.  C# preferred but not required.
  • Some experience working within a Software Development team preferred
  • Prefer some understanding of how networks behave
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills
