This is an exciting time for Ziegenfelder as we are innovating and growing and looking towards the future! Over the next 4 years we are working towards automating many manufacturing positions including adding robotics into the mix and your role is significant in making this happen.

As a plant engineer, you will work in the Wheeling manufacturing facility to ensure that daily operations run smoothly. Your responsibilities will include designing new systems or equipment, developing the proper procedures for the operating equipment, and supporting the maintenance and operation teams. Additional job duties may involve planning and supervising engineering projects and checking for safety and industrial code compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with all levels/departments in the facility to identify and implement manufacturing processes along with automation improvements.
  • Increase productivity of production, auxiliary, and overall facility equipment to create streamlined and effective processes.
  • Troubleshoot failures associated with any of the electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Support the Maintenance team to ensure the methods to properly maintain equipment are understood and executed.
  • Complete beginning to end planning, direction, and coordination of all engineering projects with detailed plans to accomplish goals and oversee the integration of technical and mechanical activities.
  • Prepare design layouts for review by various stakeholders.
  • Maintain as-built, facility layouts, piping and instrumentation drawings.
  • Provide guidance and inspire the work of our maintenance tribe, collaborating closely on the training and development of maintenance staff competencies.
  • Develop, document, and implement policies, standards and procedures for the preventative maintenance, engineering and technical work performed.
  • Participate in or lead mandatory design reviews and Management of Change (MOC) analysis for the ammonia refrigeration and other systems.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, and making decisions regarding purchases of materials or services. 
  • Ability to convey complex topics effectively.
  • Provide remote help to the maintenance staff at all plant locations.
  • Work with the Engineering team to assist the plants outside of working hours.
  • Travel up to 25% required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and demonstrated application of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of design engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with large manufacturing equipment, preferably in the food and beverage industry
  • Ability to manage multiple projects / assignments simultaneously
  • Skilled in team building and demonstrated experience in effectively working with cross functional teams to get positive results
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and complex problem solving
  • Working knowledge & programming experience in PLC’s and HMI’s, preferably in Allen Bradley
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial or manufacturing highly preferred).
  • Understand electrical and P&ID drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of AC and DC voltage systems and the ability to troubleshoot.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Standing up to 8 hours per day.
  • Moving and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Bending, twisting, reaching and grasping actions.
  • Good spatial awareness working around manufacturing equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May be subject to noise above 85 decibels with proper protection equipment.
  • May be subject to cold temperatures of less than 32F with proper protective equipment.
