Technical Riding Technician

Edinburgh

£60,217 + 15% shift allowance

Your new role

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for providing mobile technical support to deliver operational requirements, as defined in the Scotrail Train Services Agreement (TSA). Technical Riding Technicians shall be flexible and adaptable in their duties, being deployed across the ScotRail network (including Outstations), delivering exemplary support to our Customers, in line with HRL vision & objectives. This role will involve working days and nights shifts covering a 24/7 rota.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertaking rapid fault finding and diagnosis of any type of fault/defect affecting the service, operational capability or safety of a Set. Correct and/or isolate faulty components as required, enabling a Set to return to service where practicable
  • Liaise with HRL Maintenance Controller, Central Planning Cell (CPC), and update (Scotrail) operational staff as required. Minimise operational delays/impact on the customer/passenger
  • Travel on the ScotRail network as directed by HRE Maintenance Controller/CPC in order to meet trains in traffic and support responses to in service incidents
  • During nightshift travel between Scotrail Outstations to accommodate overnight work as directed by CPC or Maintenance Control
  • Use a 4G tablet, diagnostic laptop appropriate tooling to undertake and record all work undertaken. Record/report findings when these cannot be rectified at the time
  • Liaise with a multitude of Stakeholders as required
  • Use engineering processes, tools and techniques to provide assurance HRE assets comply with operational specifications
  • Ensure Maintenance Management systems are kept up to date with clear and concise information of work carried out
  • Read and extract information from traction and rolling stock drawings, Vehicle Maintenance Instructions and specifications
  • Prepare for and undertake the removal and/or repair/replacement of components
  • Install new traction and rolling stock components using engineering processes, tools and techniques
  • Identify, assess and rectify defects and discrepancies on HRE rolling stock assets
  • Identify repeat defects on HRL assets and recommend/carry out corrective action
  • Create/amend technical scopes of work for fault rectification by other members of staff
  • Adhere to and champion SSHEQ practices in the workplace, carry out individual and team Risk Assessments and ensure Safe Systems of Work are employed before work is carried out
  • Willingness to develop professionally and support good working relationships
  • Communicate with personnel at all levels, as required to complete the duties of the post
  • Report to and assist TRT Team Leader and Fleet Operations Manager as required

About you

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

Licences / Competences

  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS (or willing and able to attain on appointment)
  • Maintenance and fault diagnosis, preferably EMUs (transferrable skills considered)
  • Driving Licence

Qualifications

  • M & E HNC or served apprenticeship with mechanical, electrical disciplines
  • Engineering based N/SVQ level 3

Behavioural

  • Must be able to work as an individual or in a team and make decisions under pressure
  • Able to prioritise workload and be flexible responding to emergent requirements
  • Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times

Desirable

Licences / Competences

  • Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel
