About This Role

The Medical Director will serve as a senior strategic leader, providing expert medical guidance to shape development programs, launch planning, and lifecycle support for lupus —with the goal of improving meaningful patient outcomes. As a key member of Biogen’s Lupus Global Medical Affairs team, you will drive the design and execution of the Global Medical Strategy for CLE in dermatology and strengthen Biogen’s leadership within the global lupus medical community.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide strategic medical leadership for dermatology lupus programs across development, launch, and lifecycle management.
  • Build and maintain high-impact partnerships with global medical dermatology experts and healthcare providers to inform strategy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of cross-functional medical strategies aligned with clinical and commercial objectives.
  • Generate and integrate medical insights to guide global and regional strategic planning.
  • Oversee key medical activities, including advisory boards, scientific education, and research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clinical development and operations to optimize site engagement and identify centers of excellence.
  • Partner with scientific communications to shape publication strategy and ensure impactful data dissemination.
  • Drive collaborations with external stakeholders, including healthcare organizations and patient advocacy groups.
  • Champion a culture of innovation and collaboration within the Global Medical Affairs team

Who You Are

You are a scientific or clinical professional with expertise in Dermatology and a strong passion for science. You bring a marked curiosity about healthcare and business opportunities, always keeping patients, payers, and physicians at the center of your work. You thrive in collaborative environments, working across teams to solve critical scientific and business challenges. In this role, you are comfortable traveling 30–40% of the time to engage with external stakeholders and build meaningful partnerships.

Required Skills

  • Advanced degree required: MD
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably in a Headquarters-based Medical Affairs role and/or Field Medical role
    • Relevant clinical practice experience in Dermatology may be considered as a substitute
  • Experience in Dermatology required
  • Proven ability to develop, communicate, and execute comprehensive medical affairs plans
  • Demonstrated success in building productive collaborations with medical experts
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. and international regulations relevant to Medical Affairs
  • Ability to be agile, self-motivated, and comfortable operating in ambiguous settings
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal (interpersonal and presentations) and written
  • Track record of delivering results that meet or exceed objectives
  • Ability to travel 30–40%

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with medical launches and products at various stages of the lifecycle
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively with global, regional, and affiliate medical teams  
    • Ensure regional activities align with global medical strategy
    • Incorporate insights and needs from regional teams into strategic planning
  • Strong project management skills and ability to take initiative to solve complex, challenging problems

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $225,000.00-$310,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
