Overview

AtkinsRéalis is growing and our Western Canadian Mechanical and Electrical Engineering group is seeking Engineering and Technologist Students to join our team for work terms of 8 or 12 months starting in 2026. Whether you call it a co-op program or an internship, we are excited for you to join our team and receive training and mentorship in either electrical or mechanical engineering and technologist roles.

Our Engineering Services teams in Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver are dynamic and tight-knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects as part of distributed virtual project teams.  Our projects are varied and span Healthcare, National Defence, Light + Heavy Industrial, Transportation (Rail + Transit, Ports + Marines +Tunnels), Municipal, Federal (including Defence + Nuclear), and Institutional industries.

Your role

• Support the delivery of mechanical or electrical design, calculations, and systems in multi-disciplinary projects from preliminary design through construction documents and contract administration phases.
• Draft in AutoCAD or model in Revit MEP based on designer’s markups.
• Perform routine calculations and design as directed by senior team members.
• Our electrical team members assist with the design electrical & telecom systems for Buildings, including all aspects of lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, security, & communications. Sectors may include healthcare, transit, defence, energy, government, educational, & institutional facilities.
• Our mechanical team members assist with the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for Buildings, including heating and cooling calculations, pump and pipe system sizing, and equipment selection.
• Issue drawings and other documents to meet deadlines and client needs.

We know that applicants for these roles will not have experience with most aspects of this responsibilities list. We encourage applicants to apply even without experience and are seeking individuals who are interested in learning and developing. Candidates with experience in AutoCAD or Revit or anything in the above list are encouraged to highlight this in their applications.

About you

• Registered in an accredited university-level engineering program or technologist program for mechanical or electrical engineering or engineering technology.
• Experience in AutoCAD drafting software or Revit modelling software is an asset.
• Able to effectively communicate and coordinate with other members of a large team.
• Proactive and take self-initiative.
• Have the ability to handle several tasks and projects at once.
• Fast learner, with the ability to adapt.
• Please indicate whether you prefer to work in Vancour, Calgary, or Winnipeg or you are flexible for available opportunities in your application.
• This role requires working in the office five days a week.
