36Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Plans, organizes, and conducts occupational therapy to facilitate development and rehabilitation of mentally, physically, or emotionally disabled persons by properly and effectively administering evaluation and treatment programs to include ADL, home accessibility, UE, ROM, strength, endurance and coordination deficits, splint/orthotic fabrication, UE prosthetic training, self-help device evaluation and instruction, neurological facilitation and inhibition techniques, soft tissue massage and mobilization and in-home treatment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Evaluates, plans, implements, and supervises treatment programs as orders and reviewed by physician in order to upgrade patient’s physical capabilities.
Consults with other specialists and reports patient’s progress to physician, home care agencies, and others as needed.
Reviews patient’s functional needs and adjusts care plan as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcome.
Educates patients, families, and caregivers in treatment and expected outcomes. Incorporates participation by caregivers whenever appropriate.
Provides supervision to COTA and delegates appropriate clinical activities based on level of staff and regulatory requirements.
Directs and communicates effectively with other professionals and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans. Regularly updates documentation and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures.
Acts as a resource to promote occupational therapy within the community.
Provides In-Home services to patients as ordered.
Promotes profession and department through participation in in-services, health fairs, trades shows, community presentation and community service organizations.
Participates in the performance improvement process by identifying opportunities for improvement and taking action to improve patient care services.
Acts as clinical instructor for OT and COTA students through university affiliations. Supervises job shadow and high school student interns.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy required.
Illinois Licensure in Occupational Therapy required within 6 months of hire.
Clinical Board Certification preferred.
Valid Illinois Vehicle Operator’s License required.
Compensation Range
