Medical Assistants (MAs) are essential members of the chronic disease management team, working closely with clinical pharmacists to deliver high-quality care to ambulatory patients.

In this role, MAs will:

  • Collaborate directly with pharmacists in chronic disease management clinics.
  • Manage referral work queues efficiently.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments.
  • Ensure all necessary patient forms are prepared for pharmacist visits.
  • Assist with patient communications, including phone calls and in-basket messages.

This position plays a vital role in supporting clinicians and enhancing the patient experience through proactive coordination and communication.

Pay Range

$21.85 - $32.80

What Will You Do: 

Medical Assistants (MAs) are essential members of the chronic disease management team, working closely with clinical pharmacists to deliver high-quality care to ambulatory patients.  The Chronic Disease Management team consists of pharmacists that receive referrals from providers to help manage patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, etc.

In this non-traditional Medical Assistant role, MAs will:

  • Collaborate directly with pharmacists in chronic disease management clinics.
  • Manage referral work queues efficiently.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments.
  • Ensure all necessary patient forms are prepared for pharmacist visits.
  • Assist with patient communications, including phone calls and in basket messages.

This position plays a vital role in supporting clinicians and enhancing the patient experience through proactive coordination and communication. It consists primarily of phone work rather than face-to-face patient interaction.

Scheduled hours are Monday-Friday between 8am- 5pm.  (Full time – 40 hours weekly)

Where You Will Work:

  • Sinai Medical Center- 945 North 12th Street and/or St. Luke’s Medical Center- 2801 W Kinnickinnic River Pkwy. No ongoing travel, however training will occur at both locations.  Primary location to be determined with occasional travel to assist with coverage as needed at alternate site.

We are Looking For: 

  • High School Diploma or GED required. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required. 
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance.  For patient lifts over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available.
  • Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case- by -case basis.
  • Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills. 
  • Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids.  Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed. 
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
