Summary
 

Responsible for oversight and management of employee benefits plans, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, supplemental insurances, time off plans, and retirement plans. Makes recommendations of improvements based on industry and employee analysis. Monitors contracts and vendor adherence to contracts. Coordinates administration/communication of benefits to employees. Ensures compliance with government regulations, prepares annual benefit tax filings.

Location: Columbia, SC (Onsite)

This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday in a typical office environment. This role is located at 51 Clemson Road, Columbia, SC 29229.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervises and administers/directs the short term and long-term leave, benefit enrollment, and retirement programs including non-qualified plans for executives. Research current benefit trends and reports on employee enrollment trends. Develops and executes communication strategy for company benefit programs.

  • Coordinates/implements system changes to HRIS system to administer enrollment and ongoing enhancements for other systems. Works to improve any processing efficiencies for benefits and leave of absence administration.

  • Administers/directs benefit plans to include contract administration and expense tracking. Prepares/edits/finalizes data for external vendors, plan administrators, auditors, governmental and consulting organizations. Analyzes and generates benefit reports.

  • Audits benefit plans for compliance with plan procedures and government regulations. Prepares/audits government mandated reports (such as 5500s, 1095s, and W-2s). Maintains knowledge of and analyzes government regulations relating to benefit plans, FMLA, and ADA regulations.

  • Develops/guides/directs staff and ensures excellent customer service is given to employees, business units, outside agencies, vendors, etc.

To Qualify for This Position, You’ll Need the Following:


Required Education: Bachelor's

Required Work Experience: 6 years' experience in human resources. 3 of the 6 years must have been in management or supervisory role or equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.

Required Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to retirement/benefit administration. Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, make sound decisions. Ability to analyze trends and make recommendations to management. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency in spelling, punctuation, grammar. Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Basic business math and knowledge of mathematical or statistical concepts. Ability to direct, motivate, and assess performance of employees.

Required Software and Other Tools: Microsoft Office.

We Prefer That You Have the Following: 


Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree-Accounting, finance or economics

Preferred Skills and Abilities: Experience with 5500 preparations.

Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Professional designation in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR, CEBS).

Work Environment: Typical office environment. Some travel between office buildings. Some out of town travel.
