The GSC Strategy team designs the supply chains to bring world class GSK medicines and vaccines to patients. The Strategy team is responsible for product and network strategy, but also the Accelerated Innovation imperative delivering into 2030.

This role supports the ambition through benchmarking to understand industry standards and best practices, applying insights to enhance our supply chain sustainability and driving best practise in the innovative sustainable practices and technologies within the pharmaceutical and supply chain industries.

The role of the Senior Strategy Director is to develop and/or maintain a comprehensive Network and product strategy for the end-to-end supply chain that aligns both short- & long-term Global Supply Chain (GSC) resources to provide a total supply perspective. The role is expected to partner at all levels of the organisation to lead the development, implementation and execution of a supply chain management strategy for the HIV business portfolio within the overall Global Supply Chain that optimises employee capabilities, achieves the organisation’s strategic objectives and delivers competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Functional strategy formation - Leads the development and implementation of strategy for the HIV portfolio of products within the overall Global Supply Chain, ensuring integration with wider functional strategy.

  • Business case - Leads the development, presentation and continuous review of business cases for a complex, diverse portfolio of HIV brands.

  • Governance - Leads portfolio reviews and owns operational decision-making on team priorities. Is accountable for leading on strategic decisions (in conjunction with senior leaders) that impact across a portfolio of brands and is a point of escalation regarding brand decisions.

  • Business Development - Provides strategic, functional input related to network, capacity and cost etc to support the review of relevant business development initiatives.

  • Stakeholder management - Provides technical expertise and comprehensive knowledge of the wider portfolio strategy in order to influence and guide key stakeholders. Identifies and manages stakeholders within GSK at GSC, R&D and Commercial LT level.

  • Performance management - Sets appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and holds individuals accountable for achieving them; takes appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.

  • Reporting and review - Sponsors the Product Strategy Document and reports on portfolio strategic priorities, escalating to the relevant Monthly Performance Review as necessary.

  • Supply chain management - Sets and communicates the mission critical strategic objectives for a portfolio of brands (or Ph3 assets where relevant) or global network strategy. Is a point of escalation for brand or network strategy queries.

  • Engagement (sites, functions & 3rd parties) - Manages a portfolio of strategic LT, functional and site relationships, including a key partner ViiV. Sponsors the Product Strategy LT and manages and reports on the performance of the portfolio/business area.

  • Inclusive leadership - Leads the creation of an inclusive team culture in which differences are embraced; leveraging people's differences to strengthen the team and enhance decision making

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of pharmaceutical experience required

  • Supply Chain design experience

  • Experience with supply chain processes, regulatory constraints, planning and logistics

  • Experience of industry standard supply chain management techniques such as Value Stream Planning, S&OP, Inventory and Capacity management

  • Experience with procurement / contracting frameworks

  • Comprehensive forecasting and trend analysis skills to inform strategic decision making

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • MBA

  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and experience

  • Ability to deal with complexity involving Commercial, R&D and GSC

  • Problem solving abilities suitable for handling complex issues across technical, quality, regulatory and operational areas

  • Understanding of financial modelling, business case elements that support decision making

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to act as an effective leader in a complex matrix environment across multiple teams and geographies, and form strong relationships

  • Influencing skills to enable selling of ideas and initiatives to the leadership teams on the basis of a broad spectrum of drivers and constraints, and ability to motivate or change behaviours of others

  • Experience in project implementation & a track record of successfully closing out these activities in a timely and efficient manner

  • Understanding of risk management and compliance

The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $186,150 to $251,850 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
