Lumentum is seeking to hire a Software Automation Engineer (Co-op Student) for our Ottawa based team.

This co-op position is an opportunity to work in the research and development team of a photonics & fiber optics company that is passionate about meeting the needs of our customers. 
 

You will have a positive impact on our success by:
 

  • Contributing to the ongoing development of automated solutions for our next generation optical transport products;
  • Automating tools and dashboards to visualize and analyze large volumes of data to improve product performance and quality;
  • Solving complex technical problems;
  • Working in close collaboration with the Optical, Hardware, Mechanical, Software, and Firmware R&D teams; and,
  • Improving the quality and robustness of manufacturing tests.

What experience will allow you the greatest success in this role?


Recommended Education:       
 

  • 2nd, 3rd or 4th year student pursuing a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.

                                                        

Skills:      
      

  • Desire to succeed and to do things right the first time;
  • Strong problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong object-oriented software design and implementation (any language);
  • Experience with any or all of the following: Visual Studio (VB.NET or C#), Python, XML, XSD, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, SQL, Jira, SVN, Git;
  • Experience in instrumentation and automation;
  • Understanding of optical systems;
  • Experience with optical instruments and optical fibers.
