The Pharmacy Student aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric. Under minimal supervision, the Pharmacy Student performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and licensed by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy or
Current registration as a Pharmacy Intern with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
By virtue of societal trust and security explicitly imparted to pharmacies for the control of drugs, candidate/incumbent must have a clean criminal record (i.e. no felony conviction; no drug or pharmacy related convictions, including misdemeanors; no denial, suspension, revocation or restriction of registration or licensure by any State Board of Pharmacy).

Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and licensed by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy or
Current registration as a Pharmacy Intern with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED:
One year previous pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting
Previous experience using a standard keyboard and typing speed of 20-30 words per minute

Education/training REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent
Enrolled as a current student in an accredited School of Pharmacy Program

Education/training PREFERRED: N/A

Independent action(s) required:
Performs tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist’s supervision or verification.
Communicates effectively with all staff members.
Identifies equipment or operational problems and brings them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
Interacts with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.

Additional position requirements: Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.
