Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for a Quality Engineer or Principal Quality Engineer with experience in quality and/or software quality to join our team in Sykesville, MD.

In this role you will be performing or assuring quality, risk management, safety, reliability and maintainability of program achievements, subcontractors, and suppliers in accordance with contractual requirements to support multiple programs. Qualified candidates work as part of a team, demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, possess the ability to plan and be customer-support focused. Individuals must also have demonstrated ability to evaluate whether documents, instructions and procedures are being followed during execution and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for a driven self-starter with high initiative and a motivated self-learner to fill this position. This position is full-time on site.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing quality guidance/direction to operators and inspectors on the floor
  • Ensuring Software Quality requirements and processes are being implemented and maintained
  • Collaborating with functional organizations including purchasing, design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and program management to ensure quality standards are in place
  • Monitoring program quality metrics and leading SQDCM cell meetings and driving corrective actions for improvement
  • Ensuring timely preparation and delivery of program deliverables
  • Reviewing contracts for Quality Assurance requirements
  • Conducting process audits on programs and quality systems for deficiencies and ensuring effective corrective measures

This position can be hired at either a Quality Engineer level or a Principal Quality Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for the Quality Engineer level (2):

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD Security Clearance and be a US Citizen
  • Experience in reading/interpreting engineering drawings and specifications

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Quality Engineer level (3):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree plus 3 years of experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD Security Clearance and be a US Citizen
  • Experience in reading/interpreting engineering drawings and specifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with implementing and maintaining Software Quality requirements and processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with internal / external customers
  • Efficient in computer skills
  • Experience with quality engineering, inspection methods, production control, manufacturing operations, product test & evaluation, reliability, defect analysis, and control of nonconforming material
  • A basic knowledge of interpreting customer contractual, technical and MA requirements and ensure these requirements are integrated into program plans, specifications, and product drawings
  • Experience with ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality Management systems
  • Proficient in Root Cause Analysis tools, such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, 8D, 5 Why, etc.
  • Experience coordinating customer communications across multiple programs
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams to resolve problems or issues
  • Trained and experienced in performing Root Cause Corrective Action
  • Certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies
  • Active Secret DoD Security Clearance

Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Salary Range 2: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
