This role is responsible for the design and development of embedded applications on hardware platforms.  The focus in this role includes creation of technical specifications, application firmware design and development, and support for manufacturing and regulatory approval. Knowledge of entry-level software development practices and principles is required.  An Engineer I, Firmware must support their peers in day to day development activities and be able to troubleshoot platform defects of limited complexity.  This role will be responsible for both individual and team based software development activities.

Job Responsiblities:

  • Design, develop, and implement application level firmware solutions to meet business needs
  • Work with stakeholders to understand functional requirements of systems to accurately develop designs, implementations and test cases
  • Design and develop application firmware using best practices that adhere to product specifications using an Agile development process
  • Create and maintain technical specifications as related to product development
  • Work with senior engineers to implement scalable designs and modular functional blocks that meet product requirements
  • Use design analysis techniques such as FMEA or rate monotonic analysis to validate software designs prior to implementation.  Ability to accurately document an intended design is critical
  • Create unit test cases that accurately test interface functionality and responses to varied inputs both in and out of scope
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve firmware defects as found during bench, lab, and production QA testing
  • Apply software quality tools such as Lint, Understand, and other static and dynamic analysis tools to verify software releases meet quality and coding standards
  • Support regulatory engineering for FCC and other outside agency approval of end products
  • Support manufacturing on site during as needed for engineering and production builds
  • Manage own work to deliver according to project schedules; be accountable for delivery
  • Actively contribute to the adoption of software architecture, best practices, and technologies
  • Responsible for complying with the security requirements set forth by the Information Security team and the established ISO 27001 Security Roles, Responsibilities, and Authorities Document found in the ISMS Document Library
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering strongly preferred; or minimum of four (4) years of job-related experience as defined in the Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Able to travel up to 10% - domestically and internationally

  • Ability to work within  cross functional teams to create electro-mechanical products; strong analytical skills; effective communication skills; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment; object Oriented programming experience; TCP, UPD, HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, or other connected protocols; Agile/Scrum experience
