The selected candidate shall in capacity of Data Privacy Office is expected to serve as a subject-matter-expert (SME) on regional data-related regulations / legislation and at times serving as the designee / stand-in for the Regional Head on advisory matters, program decisions, or engagement with the business or other partners. The selected candidate would be required to ensure the consistent implementation of Global Data Privacy and Protection Program that enables the Bank to operate in a global, regional and functional manner that is compliant with existing and emerging data-related regulations / legislations. Furthermore, the selected candidate in the capacity of Regional Technology Compliance Advisory is the APAC SME on technology-related regulations (e.g. Information security, Artificial Intelligence) functioning as a Compliance advisor supporting Compliance team across APAC and liaising with System Office of Asia.
Strategic
Provide regional input in developing and enhancing privacy compliance-related policies, procedures, processes, and internal controls, in particular ensuring consistency and driving a regional or global approach.
Support of the projects/initiatives of Global Privacy Program and APAC Compliance Program.
Continuous process refinement to manage and deliver effective advisory
Financial
Ensure operational activities are performed effectively and assess initiatives to reevaluate resourcing structures
Customer
Develop and maintain relationships with lines of business in APAC.
Collaborate and support global / regional projects through the provision of subject matter expertise and assessments.
People
Develop and maintain cooperative partnership with ACO specialist teams, APAC Country Compliance Officers (and teams), Global Data Privacy teams, Global Cross Border Data Movement team and Legal teams.
Other/Control
Assist the Regional Head in executing the APAC Data Privacy and Protection program, including Privacy Impact Assessment reviews, collaboration with the line of business privacy leads in APAC, support of global and regional projects, especially project involving cross-border data movement, review and updating Privacy Notices, and advisory support for privacy incidents.
Provide reports and advice to the Global Chief Privacy Officer and Global Data Privacy and Protection Program leads, as well as to committees and senior management on regional privacy related issues, trends, exceptions, and program enhancements with the APAC region.
Engage regional Business / Support Unit management to ensure compliance to Data Privacy and Protection Program.
Maintain a current awareness of the data-related and technology-related regulatory/legislative environment throughout the APAC region and demonstrate a strong working knowledge of privacy principles and technology applications.
Research privacy and technology regional compliance issues and provide interpretations and clarifications.
Coordinate remedial measures in response to issues raised in compliance examinations, audits and quality control testing.
Interact and coordinate frequently with privacy and technology compliance officers in other MUFG regions.
Interact with regulators regarding privacy-related examinations and ongoing supervision matters, in coordination with Legal and Government Affairs teams.
On all of the above responsibilities, at times serve as the designee/stand-in for the Regional Head.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Bachelor Degree
For AVP level: Minimum 5 years of compliance experience in the banking/financial services industry with an emphasis of privacy compliance.
For VP level: Minimum 7 years of compliance experience in the banking/financial services industry with an emphasis of privacy compliance.
Management / supervisory experience in the compliance function of a larger bank of financial institution.
Strong working knowledge of banking products and services
Strong working knowledge of privacy-related laws, regulations, and regulatory/legislative processes.
Preferably, experience in successfully interfacing with regulators in the banking/financial services industry.
The Certified Information Privacy Professional/Asia (CIPP/A) and /or other relevant certifications preferred.
