We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Controller to spearhead our Corporate Accounting, Insurance Accounting, and Tax functions at BCAA. You'll play a crucial role in shaping our accounting and tax planning strategies while ensuring we meet all regulatory requirements. You’ll oversee our investment portfolios and cash flow management, delivering timely and accurate financial reports that are crucial to our stakeholders.

Please note that this is a hybrid role based on our Burnaby, BC (British Columbia) Head Office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our 4567 Canada Way office and/or are not looking to relocate to BC will not be considered for this position.  

Who you are:

  • You bring extensive expertise in financial reporting and internal controls, adeptly navigating complex regulatory landscapes.

  • You are proactive in developing and implementing tax-effective strategies, ensuring minimal auditor adjustments through diligent oversight.

  • You excel in team leadership, fostering a culture of growth and knowledge retention within your department.

  • You will work well under pressure. A fast-paced environment with complex projects, changing priorities and competing deadlines is no problem for you. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial people at various levels.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the timely production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and relevance for BCAA.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of all statutory financial reports and tax returns while implementing tax-effective strategies.

  • Lead the annual external audit process, ensuring minimal adjustments to financial statements and compliance with IFRS and ASPE.

  • Supervise BCAA’s insurance accounting function, including regulatory filings and account analysis. 

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, handle the GL system (Epicor), and serve as the liaison for indirect tax inquiries.

  • Hire, train, and coach team members, ensuring they have the skills needed to meet departmental objectives and manage their career development.

  • Provide ongoing performance management and oversee pension administration and related compliance activities.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university, or university graduation in another discipline with related courses, and considerable on-the-job training

  • Completion of the CPA designation, with public practice background

  • Minimum 8 years of post-designation accounting, auditing, or business management experience, of which 3 years must have been in a supervisory capacity in a large or multi-entity organization

  • Practical experience with IFRS required, additional experience with ASPE preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, tax regulations, and investment reports

  • Previous experience in public practice, an insurance, or other financial institution

  • Experience with large, complex projects across multiple areas/divisions

  • Working knowledge of financial, accounting, mathematical, and statistical models.

The salary range for this position is $115,000  to $157,000  and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 12.5%, with the opportunity to earn up to 20%.
