What you will do: 

In this role you will be part of a collaborative Global R&D team of Engineers developing the next world class life safety devices. You will be responsible for products from conception all the way though to manufacturing.

How you will do it: 

  • Provide high-level knowledge and experience to design teams and development project efforts regarding all aspects of mechanical design and technology requirements involved with the design and support of Fire Detection products.

  • Provide complex and unique design solutions to product requirements.

  • Manage design-to-cost activity to ensure products yield projected margins.

  • Provides an advanced working knowledge of CAD design and documentation skills.

  • Provide technical leadership for lower-level mechanical design positions.

  • Work closely with Hardware and Software Engineers to translate product goals to workable product architecture.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering determining the manufacturing and test requirements for the new design.

  • Conduct design reviews with all Manufacturing disciplines; Manufacturing Engineering, Production Control, Quality Assurance, Inspecting or Requisition Engineering.

  • Provide technical direction to contractors, lower-level engineers and Technicians that enables them to carry out their appropriate assignments.

  • Develop product design schedules and cost goals.

  • Assist in determining test requirements and equipment need for new projects.

  • Provide input for the performance review of lower-level engineers, Draftsmen and Technicians.

What we look for: 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience

  • Firm understanding of design principals related to electro-mechanical products

  • High level knowledge of sheet metal and plastic design

  • Experience with CAD. CREO preferred

  • Experience with PLM. Windchill preferred

  • Able to manage products through complete development cycle (concept through to manufacturing).

  • Must be able to work in a global team environment.

  • Be a mentor for lower-level engineers

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Experience with Excel, Word

  • Knowledge of UL, ULC, FM standards

  • Knowledge of IP and NEMA standards related to electrical enclosures

  • Good presentation skills
