The Chief Bancassurance Officer, Asia for Sun Life will lead our Bancassurance Distribution strategy and operations across Asia to help deliver on that purpose.
The successful candidate for this role is a client first business leader with proven ability to develop a holistic distribution strategy in bancassurance, adopting an omni-channel (online & offline) mindset for our clients to access our services. We envision this role to work hand in hand with the leaders in each of our Business Units (BUs) to define and lead a world class Bancassurance model for Sunlife.
Client driven and fueled by a strong digital / innovation mindset, this role partners closely with our BU Chief Distribution and Chief Bancassurance Officers, cross functional leaders across our Asia markets, and our BU CEOs to develop and execute regional Bancassurance strategies and priorities to support rapid growth and expansion across all Asia business units. This is a key role within the Asia Client & Distribution team, which supports and uplifts new initiatives for each of the BUs across Asia to deliver exception Client and Distribution outcomes.
This role actively influences work relationships with the BU leadership and Distribution teams to deliver sustainable growth based on short-term and long-term strategies and plans for Asia. The role reports to Chief Client & Distribution Officer, Asia and is based in the Asia Regional Office in Hong Kong.

Drive overall Bancassurance excellence:
- Build the Regional Office (RO) Bancassurance Centre of Excellence (CoE) to help lift BU driven outcomes by providing subject matter expertise in areas including but not limited to: RM, AI & Client journeys : Multi channel distribution : Digitalization : Life, Health & Wealth proposition and distribution channel management.
- Partner with BUs to improve and sustain sales competitiveness and drive actions to improve growth across channels through innovative solutions while improving market position.
- Ensure SL bancassurance distribution playbooks covers best of class models, training, product and compensation, recruitment practices, marketing and customer experience, data analytics and management tracking.
- Leverage the SL operating model for efficiency and effectiveness, partner and collaborate with other leaders to ensure integrated strategies and tactics, and effective governance.
- Intensify ‘Client Impact’ across Asia to deliver targeted Client and business outcomes.
Modernization of Bancassurance Distribution and driving innovation:
- Develop a holistic Bancassurance distribution strategy, adopting an omni-channel (online & offline) mindset for our Clients to access our services, leveraging regional scale for overall efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support BUs to optimize initiatives that transform and modernize our digital bancassurance journey, and delivery of purpose-aligned outcomes.
- Actively optimize the use of technology, champion digital and data analytics practices to increase bancassurance distribution reach and expansion.
- Drive and sponsor key transformation initiatives, leveraging the most appropriate AI and other innovative solutions to drive growth and productivity.
- Drive and deliver Lead Management and Activity Management, whilst working with Marketing and Data & Analytics teams to drive better lead acquisition and higher conversion rates. Whilst this role focuses on Bancassurance, this key outcome is across distribution channels, whilst holding responsibility for the digital distribution CoE.
Bancassurance distribution excellence:
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support and enable BU Banca implementation, optimize client segmentation and data analytics to support market to achieve required outcomes.
- Partner with BUs and Regional Office (RO) CoEs to define Banca capabilities, roadmaps, and the overall fit-for-purpose Banca target operating model.
- Partner with BUs to leverage synergies and best practices to achieve and accelerate Banca Client and business outcomes.
- Build Bancassurance leads, partnering with Data & Analytics to drive more qualified leads, and higher conversion rates.
- Build Pre Approved Sum Assured propositions for one click, digital straight through processed Bancassurance sales.
Support, Enable and Partner with Agency distribution:
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support BU Agency implementation and to continuously improve agency quality.
- Partner with the Chief Agency Officer, Asia and other CoE on fit-for-purpose Agency capabilities with particular focus on growing sustainable agency.
- Partner with BUs to leverage synergies and best practices to achieve and accelerate Client and business outcomes.
Support and Enable Brokers and non-bank Partnership distribution:
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support and enable BU broker and non-bank partnership to build best of class distribution.
- Explore distribution opportunities to expand existing market share for broker HNW and digital partnerships.
- Support in Sunlife risk and compliance process related to these channels.
People leadership and risk management:

Qualifications (heading) / Compétences (titre)
- University graduate with deep industry experience with knowledge of Life Insurance, Health and Wealth, market dynamics and marketing trends.
- 20+ years of Bancassurance Distribution experience, with proven success in building a world-class distribution team.
- BU Bancassurance Distribution experience required with Regional / Corporate level experience preferred.
- Digitally savvy with understanding of agile management, digital platforms and data analytics.
- Deep knowledge in key business performance indicators, partnership, marketing strategies and other related growth pillars, with strong financial awareness in sales performance and financial metrics
- Strong Client focus mindset, able to develop collaborative partnership and create win-win outcomes with the leadership team and stakeholders.
