The IV Technician functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager to facilitate the provision of safe age appropriate and culturally aware patient care by performing the following functions: distributing, cleaning, and maintaining electronic infusion devices, ordering and stocking supplies, assisting with charging and maintenance of statistical data, assisting nursing staff with clinical procedures and other duties as assigned.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Distribute electronic infusion devices throughout hospital
  • Maintain departmental PAR levels
  • Retrieve broken IV infusion devices from units
  • Round on each unit and assess IV pump needs
  • Assist nurses with removing electronic infusion devices from patient rooms that are no longer in use.
  • Soiled equipment transporting complies with facility’s Infection Control Policy. 50% Clean electronic Infusion devices
  • Assess departmental soiled utility areas for dirty pumps, clean as necessary
  • Proper cleaning complies with facility’s Infection Control Policy and manufacture recommendations.
  • Defective/broken equipment is properly tagged and stage in appropriate location for Biomedical pick up.
  • Review equipment preventative maintenance (PM) schedule and stage out dated equipment in appropriate location for Biomedical pick up.
  • Test all syringe pumps battery functionality and replace as required.
  • Plug in all infusion pumps, PCA pumps and Feeding pumps to ensure full charge prior to deployment.
  • Check and fill water levels with distilled water on Hypothermia and K Modules machines as required. 50% Assist IV nurses with PICC line insertion and other patient care duties as needed 5% Ensures proper functioning of electronic devices
  • Assists the Biomed department in drug library downloads
  • Assesses for yearly inspection
  • Troubleshoots alarms related to mechanical failure of pump 5%


Required Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma Required or equivalent

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor

Preferred Minimum Experience:

  • Healthcare experience Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
  • Strong customer and interpersonal skills
  • Good telephone and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, ability to function in stressful and emergency situations
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Computer skills required, personal time management skills required
