The Red Hat Kernel Maintainer team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Brno Office, Czech Republic . In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a difference in the way Red Hat kernels are built and tested.  You will gain a deep understanding of a variety of technologies, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Kernel and Real Time Kernel, as well as Gitlab pipelines and automation. You will ensure that our solutions and products fulfill the highest possible enterprise standards for quality, performance, usability, and supportability criteria. You will also work with developers and testers across the full breadth of kernel subject matter expertise.

What you will do

  • Build, test, deploy, and support the tooling framework that is responsible for supporting the development, building, and testing the kernel with open source upstream community tooling.
  • Develop new test cases and fix reported bugs
  • Act as a maintainer within Red Hat kernel development to integrate the work done by our kernel engineers
  • Contribute to Gitlab development on behalf of Red Hat interests
  • Collaborate with the Engineering, QE, Product Management, Documentation, and product build teams to improve tooling and process
  • Backport fixes and features to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) releases
  • Communicate and help coordinate dates, deliverables, feature requirements, roadmaps
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for AI integration within the software development lifecycle, driving continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices; share use cases for successful experiments with stakeholders for broader use.

What you will bring

  • Professional working experience as a quality engineer, development engineer or other directly related experience in an enterprise environment
  • Familiarity with low-level programming, such as computer architecture, operating systems, and Linux kernel and user space development
  • Proficiency with the C, Python, Ruby and Bash languages
  • Experience with open source tools and development models like make, git, etc.
  • Fluent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a distributed team environment
  • Motivated and dedicated to learning

The following are considered a plus: 

  • Solid skills and background in Linux and kernel building and development.
  • Any Linux system administration certifications are a plus
  • Experience with software test planning, test cases design, test script automation, and documentation
  • Experience with virtualization, cloud-computing, containers, Ansible, OCP and other Red Hat products
  • Experience with Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) system, and its related solution delivery processes
  • Experience in the broader upstream Linux community
