Sr. Director, Corporate Development
Location: Golden Valley, MN
Function: Corporate Development / Strategy
Position Summary
The Sr Director, Corporate Development plays a critical leadership role in advancing Pentair’s inorganic growth agenda. This role will both lead select M&A transactions end‑to‑end and provide deal support across the enterprise, partnering closely with business segments, Finance, Legal, Strategy, and executive leadership. In addition, the Sr. Director will establish and lead Pentair Corporate Ventures, building a disciplined approach to minority investments, partnerships, and venture activity aligned to Pentair’s long‑term growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities
M&A Leadership and Deal Execution
- Lead select M&A transactions as deal captain, with full accountability from target screening through close and integration planning.
- Support larger, more complex transactions led by the Chief Finance Officer and executive leadership, providing analytical rigor, project leadership, and cross‑functional coordination.
- Drive valuation, financial modeling, synergy analysis, due diligence coordination, and transaction structuring in partnership with Finance, Legal, and external advisors.
Enterprise Deal Support
- Provide deal support across business units, partnering with segment leadership on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships of varying size and complexity.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders by translating strategic priorities into actionable inorganic opportunities and deal theses.
- Serve as PMO leader for integrations and disintegrations associated with portfolio actions, ensuring disciplined execution and value capture.
Pentair Corporate Ventures
- Stand up and lead Pentair Corporate Ventures, defining the strategy, governance model, investment criteria, and operating cadence.
- Identify, evaluate, and execute minority investments, venture partnerships, and early‑stage opportunities aligned with Pentair’s technology, innovation, and growth priorities.
- Partner with Innovation, R&D, and business leaders to ensure venture activity supports commercial outcomes and strategic optionality.
- Manage relationships with venture capital firms, startups, and external ecosystem partners.
Strategy, Governance, and Executive Engagement
- Partner with the CFO, Treasury, and Business Segment Presidents on enterprise portfolio strategy and capital allocation frameworks.
- Prepare and present deal recommendations, investment cases, and strategic insights to the Executive Leadership Team and, as appropriate, the Board of Directors.
- Monitor market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging technologies to inform inorganic growth and venture priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity, venture capital, or strategy roles with significant M&A exposure.
- Demonstrated experience leading M&A transactions and supporting large, complex deals in a matrixed organization.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and deal structuring skills; ability to influence senior leaders and operate with executive presence.
- Experience building new capabilities or operating models (e.g., venture investing, partnerships) strongly preferred.
