This group works closely with our traditional in-store teams to help ensure our online shopping experience is effortless, intuitive and reliable, by helping Canadians find the right products and in the right way. 

Reporting to the Divisional Omni-Channel Lead, the Sr. Category Director, Omni-Channel has ultimate accountability of the online shopping experience for food & non-food categories, including vision, strategy, financial performance and program execution. This role will be responsible for coaching, mentoring and developing your team to achieve overall divisional Omni-Channel objectives.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build online merchandising strategy across divisional banners in collaboration with retail and Omni Category Directors
  • Own the short-term & long-term category strategies within the division for the online channel
  • Ensure a seamless and consistent shopping experience between instore and online through integrated promotions and marketing aligned with the division and enterprise
  • Build the online store front that engages customers, by ensuring the right products are surfaced at the right time personalized to customers shopping the website/app
  • Ensure team of Category Directors work with the in-store merchandising teams and Loblaw Digital to build category programs and ensure that targets for sales, margin, market share & tonnage for a group of categories are met
  • Collaboratively plan activities and develop positive relationships with the retail Category Directors in order to improve sales & profit.
  • Build strong relationships and leverage all key collaborators to invest in their business for growth ahead of the market.
  • Collaborate with Digital Central Merchandising team to define go-to-market strategies and build online experiences for seasonal & enterprise events that engage customers effectively in discovering and buying specific categories
  • Take full ownership and responsibility for achieving overall online banner targets and Key Performance Indicators
  • Review weekly online channel category & product performance to find opportunities for improvements
  • Understand the competitive landscape of the retail online industry to be Canada’s favourite online destination
  • Actively support the divisional promotional collective planning process and leadership program governance model to ensure effective planning and leadership alignment on all seasonal, banner and enterprise programs
  • Manage timelines, merchant communications and key process deliverables, and collaborate across teams to adjust planning processes for optimal results
  • Excellent communication skills and able to present to and influence senior management
  • Coach, develop and mentor team members, including identifying on-the-job training needs, providing feedback, and supporting colleague development

What You’ll Need:

  • 5-7 years of business experience in category management and/or e-commerce merchandising 
  • 5+ years' experience leading and establishing a team
  • A strong understanding of the market and competitive landscape to recognize and capitalize on opportunities
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, in partnership with divisions and collaborators across the enterprise to tackle complex problems
  • Confirmed strength in having a ‘customer lens’ in all decision-making process
  • Consistent track record to develop short- and long-term plans in line with corporate strategies
  • Dynamic and innovative: enthusiastically seeks out opportunities to improve competitiveness and demonstrates an innovative spirit.
  • Ability to capture and synthesize customer, competitor and market insight and information
