About the Role


Calling for Psychiatric Nurses (RPN2) to work in Mental Health at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne! You will provide a high standard of care working closely with the multidisciplinary teams to achieve a positive experience and excellent outcomes for all of our consumers and their families/carers. You will be offered a range of learning opportunities to develop specialist skills and the opportunity to operate within an integrated Adult Area Mental Health Service.

  • Provide a supportive and therapeutic environment that promotes independence, opportunity and recovery
  • Work within the Strengths Model of Recovery Oriented Practice
  • Uphold a culture of hope, using optimistic and positive language in supporting consumers and celebrating their recovery efforts
  • Work with consumers to sustain and expand upon existing resources, assets, networks and relationships and support to access opportunities, resources and services to achieve their recovery goals
  • Provide education to consumers about medication, self-help, coping strategies and symptom management
  • Actively challenge stigmatising attitudes, discrimination and social exclusion.

Classifications for this role will range between NP22 - NP70 ($71,333 - $95,378 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution

  • Knowledge and ability to conduct a basic mental health assessment
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills working with limited supervision and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and with multiple key stakeholders including consumers, carers, family members and community agencies
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including sound oral and writing skills
  • Enrolled in/or completed a mental health post grad or completed an international mental health nursing degree
  • Highly desirable: Experience in similar settings or of providing support to someone with mental health issues
  • National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About the Mental Health Team


St Vincent’s is proud of its International reputation in the delivery of Mental Health Services and the use of the ‘Strengths Model’ and its principles.  The Mental Health service includes a 44 bed adult acute inpatient unit which provides care for people living in the cities of Yarra and Boroondara; the Koori state-wide Inpatient Mental Health Service; and a wide range of community teams providing care based on individual needs.
