About you and this role –

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Crane Operator /Rigger located in Orange, Texas part of Sabine River Operations (SRO).  

Provides Crane and Rigging support to plants. Responsible for operating a stationary or traveling crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. Depresses buttons, lifts levers, and ensures load is safely attached to crane before bringing it down.  May act as an informal resource for team members with less experience.

Responsibilities –

  • Operate mobile crane equipment safely and effectively under general supervision in accordance with site and regulatory requirements.

  • Manipulate crane controls (levers, pedals, and hoists) to regulate speed, direction, and load movement based on written procedures, verbal instructions, and standard signal communication.

  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and coordinate repairs to ensure crane readiness and reliability.

  • Execute lifts by safely raising, positioning, and placing equipment, materials, and machinery within prescribed limits of accuracy and load charts.

  • Ensure proper crane setup, including placement of outriggers, blocking, and verification of stable ground conditions to prevent tipping or equipment failure.

  • Follow all lift plans, signal person directions, and site-specific procedures to maintain safe lifting operations.

  • Assemble and configure crane components (e.g., boom extensions) as required for specific lifting conditions.

  • Maintain full situational awareness and operate within defined safety zones, avoiding hazards such as line-of-fire exposure and overhead obstructions.

  • Start, monitor, and shut down crane systems in accordance with operating procedures and manufacturer guidelines.

  • Transport crane or support equipment to and from job sites as required and assist with loading/unloading activities.

  • Complete required documentation including job tickets, inspection records, and work summaries accurately and timely.

  • Maintain compliance with all site crane and rigging requirements, permitting processes, and safety standards.

  • Demonstrate disciplined adherence to instructions, procedures, and communication protocols during all operations.

  • Support continuous improvement by identifying safety risks, reporting near misses, and contributing to safe work practices.

Qualifications –

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required. 

  • The Crane & Rigging Technician role requires nationally recognized certification in both crane operation and rigging. Candidates must hold current NCCCO or NCCER certifications applicable to both disciplines.

  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, overtime and or holidays if required without reasonable accommodation.

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience operating cranes and performing rigging activities in industrial or construction environments.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Your Skills –

Communication: Effectively exchanges critical information with team members, signal persons, and supervisors to ensure safe and coordinated crane and rigging operations. This includes clear interpretation of hand signals, radio communication, and verbal instructions, ensuring all parties remain aligned throughout lifting activities.

Decision Making: Applies sound judgment to assess lift conditions, equipment status, and environmental risks, making timely decisions that prioritize safety and operational efficiency. This includes knowing when to stop work, adjust lift execution, or escalate concerns based on changing conditions.

Proactive Problem Solving: Anticipates potential operational or safety issues (e.g., unstable loads, equipment limitations, hazardous conditions) and takes early action to mitigate risk. Demonstrates the ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions before problems impact safety or productivity.

Work Coordination: Effectively organizes and aligns activities between crane operators, riggers, signal persons, and other crew members to ensure lifts are executed safely and efficiently. Ensures all roles understand the lift plan, sequencing, and responsibilities prior to and during execution.

Rigging: Applies technical knowledge and skill to safely select, inspect, and use rigging equipment (e.g., slings, shackles, hooks) to attach and control loads during lifting operations. Ensures proper load balance, secure attachment, and controlled movement throughout the lift.

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations-

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, respirators and steel-toed shoes.

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.

  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.  

  • Lift a maximum of 50 lbs.

  • Our safety equipment has weight restrictions.  To qualify, you must be able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for someone who weighs 300 pounds or less.

  • This role will have an assessment to complete during the interview process. Please allow 30 minutes - 1 hour to complete the assessment at the time of interview.   

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
