We are currently looking for a Computation Material Science Intern to join our team in Silicon Valley, CA.

The Materials Informatics team brings together a team of computational material science experts with data scientists and experiment teams to accelerate materials development for niche applications. The focus of the team is towards fundamental research that can be used in improving the performance of key components using advances in Materials.

A Day in the Life:   

  • Perform electronic structure computations exploring fundamental mechanisms that explain observed phenomena in experiment

  • Build databases of materials and their properties using a combination of open-source data and in-house computations

  • Conduct extensive descriptive analytics on collected data

  • Analyze, summarize and present research findings and results through presentations, reports/documents and publications

Who We’re Looking for: 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Advanced Research achievements in scientific papers and patents on related topics

  • Advanced understanding of fundamentals in inorganic/organic chemistry, reaction kinetics, surface reactions

  • Experience with electronic structure computations (e.g., VASP, Gaussian or similar tools)

  • Experience with a wide range of Machine Learning and Statistical Modeling algorithms/techniques

  • Expertise with Python / hands on experience with machine learning frameworks like Tensor Flow, and Python packages for Data Sciences such as Pandas, Scipy, Numpy etc / Matlab

  • Attention to detail, flexibility, creativity, and excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data

    ·       Excellent written and verbal communication skill

  • Ability to perform work onsite at The Nissan Innovation Lab in Santa Clara, CA
