Job Profile

The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer position is based within the Valeo R&D department and will form an integral part of a cross-functional team developing next generation vision systems for the automotive market. This is a diverse position where the successful applicant is accountable and drives all the mechanical aspects of their project(s), to deliver robust designs on time and within budget.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead various projects from a mechanical design perspective and be part of a multidisciplinary team developing solutions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including cameras, ECUs and domain controllers.

  • Represent R&D on project, customer and supplier interactions.

  • Interface across a multidisciplinary environment in a clear and effective manner.

  • Provide technical direction and coaching/mentoring of junior engineers on the team and in the department.

  • Provide support and input to other tasks within the function as deemed necessary by management and senior management.

  • Responsible for prioritizing work daily, weekly and at a project level for all mechanical contributors working on the project(s) assigned.

  • Responsible for identifying and escalating resource needs across their project(s) not limited to, deficiencies, training needs, performance and inputting to (but not responsible for) appraisals as needed.

  • Lead and give direction on project related technical activities including product validation/testing, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, dimensional and design optimisations.

  • Manage project documentation in the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) database.

  • Support technical architecture and standards assignments.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design or equivalent

Professional Experience:

 

Mandatory:

  • 5+ years experience in Mechanical Design.

  • Experience in developing products for high volume manufacturing.

  • Tooling and moulding experience - ability to identify and suggest part improvements.

  • Experience with engineering tools such as DOE and SPC.

  • Problem solving techniques and methodical approaches to the same.

  • Experience in developing 2D drawings and 3D designing using 3D CAD.

  • Self-starter, motivated individual who can work well alone or as part of a design team.

  • The person must be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment, initiative and quality of workmanship required within the R&D environment.

  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation, and the ability to take input from others are desirable.

  • Good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a senior/lead engineer role or managing a professional team.

  • Experience in an automotive environment.

  • Experience with vision products, automotive electronics.

  • Tolerance investigations and stack up analysis experience.

  • Detailed Drawings and Drawing Control inc. GD+T.

  • Experience in designing Thermal solutions both Active and Passive an advantage
