Line of Business Overview:

Global Markets Corporate Banking supports Global Markets origination and structuring of trading and lending transactions, and coordinates with other product teams as an integral part of the Capital Markets organization. The Global Markets Corporate Banking team is responsible for completing credit due diligence in establishing and maintaining credit lines that are needed to facilitate trading, structured margin lending and securitization products, among others.

Job Description:

The Analyst will serve as a key member of the Global Markets Corporate Banking team responsible for underwriting, credit approval, and portfolio management of a diversified group of portfolios, but primarily focused on structured margin lending and securitization products.  The Analyst will support Account Management by analyzing financial and operational data for trends of counterparties and industries, completing due diligence, credit memos, portfolio management responsibilities and other ad-hoc requests as required for current and prospective clients.

Primary Function and Responsibilities:

Credit Risk and Financial Analyses:

  • Use independent critical thinking to research and analyze financial and operating information relating to companies and industries, develop key risks and mitigants and supporting credit rationale using all available sources of information including, but not limited to financial statements, databases, Bloomberg, rating agency reports, legal documentation, etc.
  • Prepare concise, accurate and well-reasoned written credit applications and memoranda for both new and existing transactions for presentation to Credit.
  • Perform financial statement and transaction analysis using spreading software, risk rating software and proprietary modeling tools.
  • Assess financial soundness of counterparties including appropriate debt levels, debt service and repayment capabilities.
  • Analyze transactions for structural strengths and weaknesses and structure appropriately to mitigate weaknesses.
  • Review credit documentation for conformity with approved Credit terms and conditions.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory developments.

Portfolio Management Support:

  • Assist Account Managers in managing a diverse portfolio of accounts.  This includes:
    • underwriting new transactions.
    • completing annual and interim reviews on individual clients.
    • completing quarterly portfolio reviews.
    • continuous monitoring of transaction performance and financial performance of the underlying client and its respective industry.
    • assist in AML/KYC processing and obtain any required documentation.
  • Maintain current financial information on clients to perform timely annual and interim reviews, financial covenant monitoring, and internal trigger monitoring.
  • Assist Account Managers in development of presentations or ad-hoc portfolio updates for relevant credit or Global Markets partners.
  • Monitor daily valuation and loan-to-value calculations for Structured Margin Lending portfolio.
  • Knowledge of Bank policies and standards to ensure portfolio adheres to BMO’s policies and procedures.
  • Review and negotiation of legal documentation.

Partnership Efforts:

  • Liaise with Global Markets areas and with various lines of business and operational areas of the Bank as required.
  • Support Global Markets areas on portfolio management needs and growth initiatives of the business.
  • Assist in updating Financing Guidelines.
  • Involve in projects as required.

Education/Professional Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and an outstanding academic achievement. 
  • 0-3 years of relevant course work or experience within global markets, investment banking, corporate banking, corporate credit, commercial banking or capital markets.
  • Formal credit training, credit analysis experience and understanding preferred. Will provide Global Markets specific training.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of capital markets, investment banking products and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of organizational lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.
  • Excellent analytical skills to include business, financial, and credit analysis areas.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills used within a collaborative and demanding team environment.
  • Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools including MS Excel, Moody’s, Capital IQ and Bloomberg. 
  • Strong proficiency in other Microsoft Office products including MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Self-starter with keen attention to detail, ability to work under limited supervision and willingness to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to be creative, insightful, and resourceful in performance of duties.
  • Strong ability to attentively review, assess, and provide detailed information daily on multiple projects in an organized manner.
  • Excellent capability to independently function as part of a team through self-motivation.
  • Proficient in building cash flow and other financial models is beneficial.

This role located in Chicago is a base salary of $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
