Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Arkansas seeks an experienced IT Support Specialist III. This role is integral to the department’s
mission, overseeing complex systems, ensuring compliance with NIST 800-171 compliance for the EECS research facility, and managing a vast inventory of technical equipment and infrastructure.

This position is responsible for diagnosing operational problems and system failures, performing corrective repairs and preventative maintenance, implementing and maintaining a variety of
computing and electrical systems, developing policies and budget specifications, coordinating departmental event technology, and supervising work-study and hourly IT support staff. The
successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting departmental growth with its increased IT demands.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Experience working in IT operations, IT support, and IT systems administration

  • Experience working in higher education or a large academic/research computing environment

  • Experience diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues

 

 Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NIST 800-171 compliance and cybersecurity frameworks such as CMMC

  • Experience with Export Control and equipment classification

  • Experience with server and endpoint management, and specialty device setups

  • Experience with systems supporting 500+ users or endpoints

  • Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking protocols, server environments, and endpoint management platforms

  • Experience supporting specialized laboratory and research equipment, such as oscilloscopes, probe stations, network analyzers, instrument-connected workstations, or similar technical research setups.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex tasks, projects and priorities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff, students, and administration

  • Knowledge of security compliance, data protection, and risk management best practices
