Job Description:

The Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic first line of defence business partner supporting Canadian leadership.  We help Canadian BUs meet our Client for Life goals by providing comprehensive understanding of operational risk, and supporting the design of effective solutions to manage risk within the business.  We partner with Canadian leadership, first line of defense Business Unit Risk Officers, and second line of defense Risk and Compliance stakeholders to assess operational risks, enhance control frameworks, educate business on risk management, provide oversight on risk policy requirements, and ultimately enable the business to evolve while maintaining risk within appetite. The scope of the team is broad, as our internal clients include all business areas supporting Group Benefits, Group Retirement Services, Client Experience Office, Insurance Solutions, Investment Solutions and SLFD.

We are looking for a Student, Operational Risk Analyst to support the overall development and maintenance of CoE practices and be a key point of contact for Risk CoE team members as they support Canadian execution managers and second line of defence stakeholders to identify, assess and manage operational risks within the portfolio.  

Work Term : May 4 - August 28, 2026

What you will do?

  • Run recurring processes to facilitate ongoing weekly/monthly/quarterly reporting with a focus on Operational Risks – primarily via Excel, Archer, and ServiceNow

  • Support assessment of risks and control effectiveness within assigned portfolios, identify opportunities to improve risk management and operational risk management best practices

  • Support Third Party Program Lead in coordinating, monitoring, and reviewing Third Party engagements ensuring all due diligence is completed in a timely manner and proportionate to the associated risks

  • Day to day support for the execution of the Enterprise Risk Framework and all its underlying requirements

  • Assist in monitoring and tracking status of risk issues and activities in risk portfolio reporting

  • Opportunities to learn to provide risk consulting expertise and support risk reviews for key business projects, digital initiatives and process changes

What do you need to succeed?

  • This opportunity is available to students with a August 2026 or later graduation date

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, data analysis tools, complex formula writing, and data visualization

  • Previous work, volunteer or leadership experience in a professional or team-based environment

  • Experience in risk management or related functions (e.g. compliance, process improvement, audit)

  • Exposure to project, program and/or portfolio management

  • Ability to design complex, flexible and sustainable processes that meet key strategic objectives

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to build relationships with various teams across the organization

  • Resilient problem solving, critical thinking and analytical skills to interpret results, define options, and influence prioritization

  • Strong time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and the ability to navigate changing priorities

  • Detail oriented with the ability to understand how that detail fits into the bigger picture

  • Stellar organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous operational tasks concurrently, with minimal supervision

  • Ability to embrace feedback, adapt quickly, and continuously enhance skills, processes, and tools

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted for. The Base Pay which you will be considered for will vary depending on the Campus program you are selected for.
