The Technical Training Manager is responsible for improving employee productivity through the assessment of Tate & Lyle’s Sagamore operation’s developmental needs, drive training initiatives and arrange suitable training solutions for employees. This position actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance and recognize performance. This role is directly responsible for ensuring all regulatory required trainings are identified, conducted, and proficiency assessed for roles under the umbrella of the plant operations.

  • Essential Responsibilities

    • Continually assess the plant’s technical training and employee developmental needs
    • Ensure all regulatory training requirements are identified
    • Ensure mandatory EHSQS knowledge is defined for each key role
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a detailed technical competence development matrix for all key roles
    • Develop, implement, conduct, and maintain a technical training curriculum for all new employees
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a standardized qualification system for all key areas of the plant
    • Develop, implement, assist in conducting, and maintain a program for competency assessment in each qualification step for each area
    • Establish a core Learning and Development Trainer Team, comprising of members from each key department
    • Ensure Learning and Development presenters are competent and possess the skills necessary
    • Develop, implement, conduct and maintain technical Train the Trainer program for operations
    • Keep up to date on the latest trends, development, and best practices in employee development
    • Identifying and implementing a wide range of training techniques to improve efficiency and returns on investment
    • Analyze training needs to develop new training programs or modify existing programs
    • Evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
    • Assist with the development of strategic plans to ensure incorporation of employee learning and development

    Growth:

    • Research ways to ensure the competency development program reflects the diverse nature of workers and their differing knowledge, language skills, and literacy

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires the ability to safely perform the following tasks:

    • Ability to wear personnel protective equipment (PPE)
    • Must be able to pass pulmonary test that is required prior to wearing breathing air mask
    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders (fixed/portable) with tools when safe to do so.
    • Ability to work from heights, and in cold and hot environments.
    • Climb a vertical ladder up to 15ft
    • Climb several flights of stairs, several times a shift
    • Stand for prolonged periods of time
    • Bending and twisting motion at the waist and knees

    Performance measures

    The person in this role will be measured against site EHSQS, Production, Reliability and Leadership goals.

    • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
    • Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
    • Zero safety policy violations
    • Active participation in plant EHSQS programs (audits, investigations, reviews)
    • Active participation in the J2EE.
