Global Operations Risk and Control team supports the management of operational risk, including transaction processing, fraud, business continuity, and Third Party Risk, by embedding robust risk culture through talent, metrics, and data across the operations function globally 

The AVP, Third Party Risk Management Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a newly established global Line 1 role accountable for ensuring effective implementation of the Company’s Third Party Risk Management framework, policy, and processes globally, including design and development of global strategy on Third Party Risk, build enterprise capabilities and processes to effectively monitor the organization’s risk posture and remediation, and govern organization’s compliance to regulatory requirements and Manulife’s Third Party Risk Management standard. This role will report to the Head, Risk & Controls, Global Operations.

Key Responsibilities: 

Leadership (30%): 

  • Develop and enhance MFC’s global strategy on Third Party Risk Management in line with evolving regulatory environment, internal business requirements, and external market developments 

  • Act as Manulife’s primary Line 1 representative to external regulators on Third Party Risk Management including review, data requests, and other inquiries 

  • Influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization to continually improve Third Party Risk Management aligning with organization’s digital and customer ambitions while reducing operational risk and cost  

 

TPRM Program (Change) Design and Implementation (30%):  

  • Lead the design and consistent implementation of global Third Party Risk Management capabilities including global Inventory, proactive risk monitoring, and leveraging AI capabilities, etc. 

  • Responsible to ensure quality and completeness of Third and Fourth Party data globally through implementation of consistent data architecture and data management practices 

  • As a Third Party Risk Management subject matter expert, partner with Procurement, business, and technology to design and implement fit-for-purpose Third Party Risk Management processes that facilitate better identification, assessment, and management of risk for specialized arrangement types (e.g. Reinsurance, Legal) 

  • Lead global TPRM program management to ensure adherence to execution timeline across technology, ops, and risk and timely escalation of risks 

 

Ongoing Execution of TPRM Governance (30%): 

  • Lead design and implementation of Global Third Party Risk Management Governance structure, including management committees and working group, in collaboration with L1 and L2 partners 

  • Define, aggregate, analysis, and report enterprise TPRM KRIs to monitor risk posture and drive remediation actions across global portfolio of third and fourth parties  

  • Govern completeness and quality of required TPRM outputs (e.g. due diligence and risk assessment process where applicable) and support business in execution of select activities  

  • Lead development of communication and training pertaining to Third Party Risk Management globally 

  • Lead regular framework, policies, and standard review; collaborate with other Third Party Risk Management SMEs / business and propose recommendation on enhancements  

 

Team Building and Leadership (10%) 

  • Lead a team of 4-5 individuals comprising of data, change management, and risk management expertise

Job Requirements:

  • Leadership experience in managing Third Party Risk Management lifecycle in Financial Services industry  

  • Confidence, maturity and credibility to deliver and present to Senior Executive leadership and business unit leadership teams 

  • Ability to foster and build relationships, engage and influence others, work with diverse subject matter experts. Flexible and adaptable when dealing with change with a strong awareness and understanding of cultural diversity.   

  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to influence across all lines of business and at all levels of the Company. 

  • Proven ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities. 

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills. Work well under pressure. 

  • High level of self-motivation and keen sense of 'owning' and delivering on project deliverables 

  • Expertise in working within a global / matrix organization. 

 

Education/Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or Finance 

  • Experience in Strategy, Operational Risk, and/or Finance 

  • 10+ year demonstrated success in progressive roles

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD
