Position Summary

The Human Resources Summer Intern will support key strategic initiatives within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role is designed to provide practical experience in HR policy development, regulatory compliance, and operational execution. The intern will be responsible for driving two critical projects: (1) the comprehensive revision of the Company’s Leave of Absence (LOA) policy to ensure alignment with federal and California regulations, and (2) coordination of the administrative transition to a new employee badging and facility access system. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and organizational capability, as well as the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with various departments.

This is a 40 hour/week internship for the summer in our Santa Ana, CA location.

Primary Responsibilities

Leave of Absence Policy Modernization

  • Conduct a detailed analysis of existing LOA policies and procedures to assess compliance with applicable laws, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), and Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL).
  • Perform external benchmarking against industry standards and peer organizations.
  • Identify policy gaps, compliance risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Draft revised policy documentation, ensuring clarity, consistency, and legal compliance.
  • Develop standardized procedures, forms, and manager-facing guidance to support policy implementation.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to review and refine proposed updates.
  • Support development of communication and training materials to facilitate effective rollout.

Employee Badging and Access System Implementation

  • Coordinate administrative activities associated with the transition to a new badging/key card access system.
  • Maintain and validate employee data to ensure accurate badge assignment and access control.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology, Facilities, and Security to support system configuration and deployment.
  • Track project timelines, deliverables, and completion metrics.
  • Assist in badge distribution and ensure proper documentation of access levels.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to building access and system functionality.
  • Support development of internal communications and user documentation.

Additional Duties

  • Provide general administrative support to the Human Resources department, including data management, reporting, and document preparation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to departmental initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to sensitive employee and organizational information.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in a professional environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of employment laws and regulations, particularly within California.
  • Prior internship or administrative experience in a professional setting.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, operations, or industrial environments.
