POSITION SUMMARY

Main Functions and Responsibilities:

The Statistical Analysis of Neural Data Group develops statistical models and open-source computational tools to extract insights from neural data. The group is particularly interested in characterizing flexibility and variability in neural circuits—e.g., how do the dynamics of large neural ensembles change over the course of learning a new skill, during periods of high attention or task engagement, or during development and aging. The Research Analyst will develop and apply statistical software for fitting generalized linear models (GLMs) to infer functional connections between neurons from high-density extracellular microelectrode arrays. The ideal candidate will have strong Python programming abilities and a broad mathematical background including probability, statistics, and optimization. This position will involve collaboration with the Associate Research Scientist - Software team in the Center for Computational Neuroscience. The Research Analyst will also assist CCN researchers working in the statistical analysis of neural data with completion and submission of conference papers including managing the editorial and publication processes, responding to reviewers, and drafting presentations on submitted papers.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, mathematics, computer science or a related technical discipline

Experience:

  • One to two years of experience in computational science
  • Experience in analysis, software, and algorithm development, modeling, and scientific simulation.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C++ and Java.
  • Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required;
