The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Care of the Long Term Care residence the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead will work with the interdisciplinary IPAC team to implement, manage and oversee the Home’s Infection Prevention and Control Program.  The IPAC Lead will have education and experience in infection prevention and control practices, including infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, reporting protocols, and outbreak management.

What You Will Do

  • Provides education for residents, care givers, visitors and volunteers related to infection prevention and control principles.
  • Implements effective infectious disease surveillance and reporting systems ensuring staff are conducting surveillance appropriately and appropriate action is being taken. Identify trends and potential spread, and corrective actions to be taken, including identification of suspect outbreaks.
  •  Coordinates the resident/employee immunization program including influenza vaccine clinics.
  •  Monitors infections and outbreaks, investigate causes and trends, and identify areas of improvement.
  • Ensures communication of the infection control data through postings or through resident/family council.
  • Participates in the development, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Home’s IPAC Program.
  • Other infection duties as assigned

What You Will Need

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with an RPN designation
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Infection Prevention and Control and Outbreak Management.
  • Previous experience providing education and training an asset.
  • Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology by April 2025
  • Successful completion of IPAC Core Competencies training through Ontario Public Health Prior Education and training in infection prevention and control an asset
  • Completion of an IPAC Canada Recognized Course is an asset
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MDS and Point Click Care
