Position Summary:

Ampersand is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Scientist/Scientist I to join our dynamic In Vivo Pharmacology team, leading projects in discovery and pre-clinical development for antibodies and related protein therapeutics. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, executing, and analyzing in vivo studies to evaluate therapeutic modalities with the aim of nominating development candidates, and supporting preclinical development and translational science of these molecules through to IND and beyond. Compensation and grade will be adjusted to the experience level of the applicant.

As a member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to understand the activity, mechanism of action, and therapeutic potential of early-stage biologics. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, where you will have the chance to work independently as well as collaboratively within a highly integrated team. This is an on-site role in South Boston.

Key Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Planning, execution, and analysis of in vivo projects to evaluate therapeutic modalities and strategies including pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic, biodistribution, and efficacy studies.
  • Conducting ex vivo wet lab experiments to analyze gene expression and protein levels,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team to design, plan and execute experiments, and manage outcomes to support research activities, project goals, and platform development.
  • Creative and strategic contributions to the discussions, designs, and implementation of in vivo and ex vivo
  • Managing relationships with external research facilities.
  • Reporting results to the scientific team and management.
  • Critical data analysis, attention to detail, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Maintaining an organized and up-to-date electronic lab notebook.
  • Writing, updating, and maintain high-quality experimental protocols.

What you bring: (Qualification, skills, and experience): 

  • MS or PhD degree with 2-5+ years of relevant experience in vivo and ex vivo lab experiments in the pharma or biotech industry.
  • Experience conducting in vivo studies with small animal models and capable of performing research activities to support our platform.
  • Proficiency in dosing via multiple routes of administration including IV, SC, IP, oral (PO), intramuscular (IM) as well as expertise with blood collection (via tail vein, cardiac bleed, cheek bleed, saphenous vein), dissection techniques, and necropsies.
  • Hands-on experience with ELISAs, tissue processing, protein extraction and quantification, RNA isolation, qRT-PCR.
  • Experience with flow cytometry and IVIS.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication.
  • Highly adaptable, and flexible to change in a fast-paced, dynamic, cross-functional, and team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work across multiple projects to meet the deadlines. 
  • Experience with genetically engineered mouse models is desirable.
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptomics, etc., is also desirable.
