Job Description:

About The Role

We are looking for an XR Modeling Engineer to join Ferrovial’s Centre of Excellence for Asset Management and Process Digitalization. In this role, you will create and optimize 3D models and support the development of Digital Twins, simulations, and XR solutions for infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with innovation teams and our business units to design PoCs, pilot new technologies, and contribute to the company’s digital transformation.

Working closely with engineers and digital specialists, as an XR Modeling Engineer

you will help demonstrate how immersive technologies, simulations, and AI can improve planning, design, construction, and asset management across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

3D Modelling & Data Preparation

• Develop, optimize, and maintain 3D models in accordance with company modelling standards, specifications, and naming conventions.
• Convert and adapt engineering, BIM, and GIS data into XR-ready assets while preserving accuracy and performance.
• Ensure models are optimized for real-time rendering across VR and AR platforms.
• Collaborate with engineering and design teams to validate model fidelity and usability.

XR Development & Deployment

• Design and implement XR experiences (VR/AR) to support infrastructure use cases such as design review, construction planning, training, safety, and operations.
• Build and maintain XR applications using industry-standard engines and frameworks.
• Support deployment of XR solutions across multiple hardware platforms (e.g., headsets, mobile devices, desktop).

PoCs, Pilots & Innovation

• Develop Proofs of Concept (PoCs) and pilot projects to evaluate emerging digital twins, simulation and XR technologies and workflows.
• Prototype new ideas rapidly, demonstrating value and scalability for enterprise adoption.
• Document findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for wider rollout.

AI-Enabled Digital Workflows

• Leverage AI technologies to enhance digital twins, simulation, and XR solutions, such as automated model processing, content generation, computer vision, or intelligent interactions.
• Explore the use of AI for optimization of 3D assets, spatial understanding, and user experience within digital environments.

• Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Work closely with engineers, digital teams, and project stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into digital solutions.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to the definition and evolution of digital twins, simulations, and 3D modelling standards within the organization.

Qualifications

Core Technical Skills

• Strong experience in 3D modeling and real‑time optimization.
• Knowledge of reality capture workflows (LiDAR, photogrammetry).
• Experience working with BIM-to-XR pipelines (Autodesk/Bentley → Unity/Unreal).
• Hands‑on experience with XR tools and engines (Unity, Unreal, Blender, Maya).
• Programming/scripting skills in C#, C++, Python, or similar.

Digital, XR & AI Expertise

• Experience developing PoCs or pilot projects in digital environments.
• Understanding AI/ML for 3D, XR, computer vision, and/or automation.
• Familiarity with digital twins and immersive visualization workflows.

Industry & Technical Context

• Experience in infrastructure, engineering, or construction environments.
• Ability to manage large, complex 3D models and meet performance constraints.

Languages & Soft Skills

• English C1 level.
• Innovative, curious, and comfortable working with fast‑evolving technologies.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
